Small and cozy cabin with hot water and electricity 1h15min outside Tromsø City. Guests have the cabin all to them self, but might have to share the big patio in the back with us or other guests. The cabin has a small bedroom, kitchen and dining area, a livingroom and a bathroom with shower.
Me and my husband love to travel and meet new people. That`s why we decided to open up the cabin in the back of our own home, to other travelers from around the world. We hope you will find our place peacefull and relaxing, and enjoy the nature out here away from the bustle of the city.
Midnight sun is visible from mid May to late July, altough the nights are bright a month before and after. At summer and time free-zone life encourage hiking, kayaking, laziness and stroll, reading a book without light around the clock. There are many activities you can do here. You can fish, kayak, experience the midnight sun and go hunting for the northern lights to name a few. The island has great hiking terrain, and there are many hiking trails to go from simple laps along the seashore to summit hikes. Summit hikes, even a short one, are a must if you travel to Sommarøy. When you get to the top, you get magical views. From the peaks you see the beaches best. There are beaches with turquoise sea and white sand that look like they were moved to Northern Norway from the Caribbean. If you visit Sommarøy on a summer day, you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the Caribbean. The chalky coral beaches and turquoise seas bring to mind warmer climes. If you jump into the water, you'll quickly be reminded that you're north of the Arctic Circle - you can swim 24/7! Winter, or to be precise – from early September to early april, the Northern Lights are right on your doorstep. When you stay on Sommarøy/Hillesøy you don’t need an expensive guided tour or hours on a bus to experience the Northern Lights. There is little light pollution on the small island and when the Northern Lights appear, you can simply step out of the door and enjoy the colorful dance in the sky. Just remember, it all comes down to the weather and clear skies! The weather is impossible to predict! Take a walk in the countryside on a grey day. Visit the royal park, the museum, the handicrafts, the art farm and the shop with the "kaillkråa" for the local old guys. At the Sommarøy Arctic Hotel you can go to have lunch or dinner at the restaurant, and they also rent out sauna and jacuzzi upon request. We also have a small local taverna called Havfua (Mermaid), where you can get quick and easy meals.
