Sommarøy/Hillesøy is a one hour (55 km) magnificent drive from Tromsø city center. Fjords, mountain passes and small villages is along the beautiful journey towards the most western village of Tromsø municipality. Wake up to the view of the nature and the silence. From september to early april, you have the chance to watch the Northern Light and in the summer enjoy all the beaches. You find yourself in a small Fishing Village, and the perfect place to relax. This is our own private home, and therefor we choose our guests very carefully. We also only rent out up on request, as we want to communicate with potential guests first and see if the place is availeble. On the first level, you have the two bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and a washer/dryer, a livingroom with tv and the kitchen with the dining area. Upstairs is another livingroom, an office, a bathroom with both a shower and a bathtub and the master bedroom. Guests will access the whole house and outside area, except a storage room in the back of the master bedroom. The patio in the back, might be shared with us or other guests in Cabin Aurora. You will see on one of the first overwiev pictures, the location of Cabin Aurora in the back of the house.
Me and my husband love to travel and to meet new people, and that`s why we decided to open our home to other travelers. We hope you will find real serenity at our place during your stay, and love our home as much as we do ourselves.
Midnight sun is visible from mid May to late July, altough the nights are bright a month before and after. At summer and time free-zone life encourage hiking, kayaking, laziness and stroll, reading a book without light around the clock. There are many activities you can do here. You can fish, kayak, experience the midnight sun and go hunting for the northern lights to name a few. The island has great hiking terrain, and there are many hiking trails to go from simple laps along the seashore to summit hikes. Summit hikes, even a short one, are a must if you travel to Sommarøy. When you get to the top, you get magical views. From the peaks you see the beaches best. There are beaches with turquoise sea and white sand that look like they were moved to Northern Norway from the Caribbean. If you visit Sommarøy on a summer day, you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the Caribbean. The chalky coral beaches and turquoise seas bring to mind warmer climes. If you jump into the water, you'll quickly be reminded that you're north of the Arctic Circle - you can swim 24/7! Winter, or to be precise – from early September to late March, the Northern Lights are right on your doorstep. When you stay on Sommarøy/Hillesøy you don’t need an expensive guided tour or hours on a bus to experience the Northern Lights. There is little light pollution on the small island and when the Northern Lights appear, you can simply step out of the door and enjoy the colorful dance in the sky. Just remember, it all comes down to the weather and clear skies! The weather is impossible to predict! Take a walk in the countryside on a grey day. Visit the royal park, the museum, the handicrafts, the art farm and the shop with the "kaillkråa" for the local old guys. At the Sommarøy Arctic Hotel you can go to have lunch or dinner at the restaurant, and they also rent out sauna and jacuzzi upon request. We also have a small local taverna called Havfua (Mermaid), where you can get quick and easy meals.
