Matakana Retreat offers a completely private and unique off grid retreat set amidst 50 acres of mixed forest and native New Zealand bush. If you want a digital detox, Matakana Retreat is a magical place to reconnect with nature while enjoying the bird life and beautiful views across the Matakana valley all the way to Hauturu / Little Barrier island. The property has 3 accomocation offerings: lodge, airstream, and safari tent, all very separate from one another. It's located just 7 minutes drive from Matakana village or just under an hour's drive from Auckland's CBD. From Auckland International Airport it's an hour and twenty minutes making it an ideal stepping off point for your NZ adventure.
Damon and Dianna have been warmly welcoming guests onto their 50 acre regenerative farm since July 2020. Both keen travellers, the couple left their "paid" careers in the sustainability sector to focus on building an eco-tourism experience where they would not only enjoy staying themselves but would be proud to share.
Matakana Coast - a stunning and accessible escape just one hour north of Auckland! This region offers a perfect blend of boutique wine country, pristine coastline, and a thriving artisan culture, making it an ideal retreat from city life. The heart of the region is Matakana Village, famous for its vibrant Saturday Farmers’ Market for fresh, local produce, artisan foods, and great coffee. The village also features boutique shops, excellent cafes, an art-house cinema, and numerous spots to sample local wine and craft beer. You are moments away from some of the North Island's most beautiful beaches and marine reserves: Omaha Beach: Pristine white sand, perfect for swimming, surfing, and long walks. Tāwharanui Regional Park: A spectacular open sanctuary with golden beaches, native forest, and exceptional coastal walks, home to protected birdlife. Goat Island Marine Reserve: New Zealand’s oldest marine reserve, offering unparalleled snorkeling, diving, and glass-bottom boat tours to observe abundant sea life. Spend your days exploring boutique vineyards for wine tastings, discovering the outdoor art installations or embarking on numerous scenic bush and coastal walking tracks.
