The property is in a private setting where you feel away from the world, and yet is so close to amenities when you need them; 5 minutes walk down to the township. The large, sheltered garden attracts native birds, and adds to the feeling of tranquility. The Harbour View suite allows guests the use of the entire upper floor of the house, including its own balcony with harbour views. Check out the chandeliers in the living room, made from wagon wheels and hoisted to an imposing position on the extra high ceiling. The Californian king (King Coil) bed ensures maximum size and comfort for an amazing sleep in an enormous room. You can't help but relax here.
Guests downstairs have views of the secluded garden and pond with water feature. They are welcome to make use of the outdoor spaces, on the terrace, or in the hammock seat- a great place for chilling with a book and a coffee or a wine. Breakfast may be served out there when the weather allows, or even when it is not great, as there are covered and sheltered areas. Garden room guests share the bathroom facilities with the owner, who does not, however, use them during hours that guests require them.
Recently returned from 9 years teaching overseas in Azerbaijan, I am happy to be able to share this little slice of Aotearoa (NZ) paradise in Mangonui with you all. I am an internationally-minded person: I love meeting people from around the world, sharing languages, cultures and humour. I enjoy cooking, motorcycling, fishing and anything that involves the sea and nature. I want my guests to have an unforgettable time when they stay with me, relaxing and unwinding, and having fun. I hope that everyone will enjoy my home cooking and feel totally satisfied when they leave, as new friends, or old friends from the past experiences abroad.
Mangonui is rich in heritage and offers attractions for most. There are many places to walk: the Heritage trail is on the doorstep and is an undemanding walk with information about different points on the way; the Rangikapiti pa, an historically significant site, is easily accessed and you can do a circuit, returning through a short but enjoyable bush walk. The Butler's Whaling Museum is a short drive away, where you can discover how Mangonui was in the 1820's to 1850's as a whaling centre. If you like a round of golf, the Whangaroa golf club is only 14 km south. Of course the famous Mangonui Fish Shop is within 5 minutes walk, as are cafés, shops and restaurants. Try your own hand at fishing off the wharf, or take out a kayak at neighbouring Cooper's Beach, only 2 minutes drive away.
