The property is managed by Steve, you’ll seldom see him as we try to give you the experience of having the place to yourself while you are here, but he will usually be onsite or always contactable by phone if you need help or would like to get to know your host better.
Steve, or “Scuba Steve” as he is known, has led a varied and unusual life.
From joining the Royal New Zealand Navy when he was only 16 years old to being part of the operations team managing an expedition cruise ship in Antarctic waters for the largest small group travel company in the world, he has spent most of his life in, on or under water.
As a PADI Master Instructor (SCUBA 40m), ADAS Construction Diver (50m), Technical Deep Diving Instructor (65m), Recompression Chamber Operator and Maritime NZ Skipper, diving was an all-consuming passion for many years after his military service. He was fortunate enough to travel to over 50 countries and regularly lead dives in places no-one had ever dived before.
A Polar Bear Guard in the high Arctic, worldwide naturalist lecturer & field guide, Antarctic Senior Polar Guide, Medical Emergency Response Team Leader, underwater photographer & videographer are just some of many roles he has held with over a dozen expedition companies.
Until recently he served on the Marine Committee of the International Association of Antarctic Tourism Operators, helping set standards for protecting the environment and safety of all who travel there.
Having owned and managed several businesses in NZ, customer service is a high priority for Steve, so if there is anything he can do to ensure you are happy with your stay please let him know, don’t wait until you leave and then give a sub-par review, allow him the opportunity to fix immediately instead. We strive to get everything perfect but are human and sometimes make mistakes or don’t see what you do. Steve or the cleaner will always value your feedback and tips should you be so inclined.
Warmest regards,
Management
