Our Art Nouveau Homestead was built in 1917. The farm was originally won in a Government Ballot in 1905 by the Allan Family. They lived in a wooden shed across the road while they farmed the land and saved the money to build the house. It has been loved and kept in excellent condition by the same family for 105 years, until they decided to subdivide it off from the Dairy Farm, and sell it, so that it didn't become derelict.
It is set in established gardens, with mature trees and different bulbs pop up out of the gardens all year with a lot of bird life.
Since we bought the property we have replaced all the carpeting with thick woollen carpet, have installed diesel radiator heating though out, so the house stays at a constant temperature, have replaced all the electrical wiring, capped the old chimneys and did up the laundry.
The ceilings are 10 feet high and there are still a lot of the original feature in the house, including 2 fireplaces, the hallway carving and many of the doors and door handles.
Phil and I are retired Dairy Farmers. We sold our farm and bought this beautiful Historic Homestead. It was the first time that the home had changed hands in 105 years, so we are honoured to take on the role of caretakers for this property. You will be staying in our house with us, the bathroom is shared by everyone that stays including ourselves, don't be scared, it does work well with everyone, there are two separate toilets, and the kitchen is shared too. I am a Real Estate Agent and Phil has had back surgery so he is taking it easier around home at the moment. We love animals and miss working with our Cows. Our home is set on 5 acres and we have 4 Beefies, an old Foxy dog and an old cat. We love having guests to stay, and any money received will go towards the upkeep of the property, and in the process, we get to meet all sorts of people, with lots of interesting stories to tell, if you want to share. Our kitchen is free for you to use, help yourself to Tea/Coffee/Milo, the milk is in the fridge, we provide cereal and bread and spreads for toast in the mornings, just help yourselves when you are ready. There is a Pub 2kms down the road where you can get a meal if you don't want to cook your own.
We are a rural property between Balclutha and Central Otago. 2kms down the road is the Greenfield Tavern/Bistro, a Golf Course, a gas station & the local covered swimming pool which is great in Summer.
