Kahurangi Twizel Homestay Bed & Breakfast is a modestly sized home and is located 8 min (drive) away from Twizel Town Centre. While it doesn't have the convenience of being close to the main town center, it offers guests a quiet rural setting - away from the bustling village center. The property sits slightly elevated on a 2.1 hectare land and is surrounded by mountain ranges and a big sky.
Guests are always welcomed with a spirited greeting and the best parking lot is reserved for them. A pick-up and drop-off service at the town centre is warmly extended for guests who arrive by coach buses.
We were both born and bred in Singapore but our hearts belonged to mountains, rivers, and wide-open spaces.
After a 3-month back packing trip through the North and South Islands of Aotearoa New Zealand in 2009, Moses knew he found his home. Afterall, “Home is not where you are born; home is where all your attempts to escape cease” – Naguib Mahfouz
Having lived in the Mackenzie High Country since 2010 and apart from living in Ōtautahi Christchurch city for a short 18 months, it was natural for us to gravitate towards Te Manahuna Mackenzie Country again when it was time for us to build our forever home.
We chose Twizel because its proximity to the Southern Alps of Aoraki Mt Cook National Park and its surrounding mountain ranges, Lakes Takapō, Pukaki, and Ōhau and their rivers and tributaries and the Alps to Ocean cycle tracks meant that the possibilities of our pursuit of tramping, flyfishing, and cycling are endless. Too, having lived for decades in the brightly lit city of Singapore we have always pined for the celestial sight of our Milky Way galaxy and as Twizel and Te Manahuna Mackenzie Country and Aoraki Mt Cook National Park holds the International Dark Sky Reserve Gold Status, our dream of gazing into our cherished stars and the occasional and ethereal dance of the Aurora Australis (aka The Lady of the Night) is forever preserved.
As we live in such a special place surrounded by endless beauty through the seasons, we count ourselves very fortunate and the idea of wanting to share them with you comes naturally.
Aoraki Mt Cook National Park is only a short and scenic 50min drive from the Bed & Breakfast and it boasts some spectacular easy walks, notably the Hooker Valley Walk as the most popular one. Closer to your accommodation the Twizel River Walkway is a pleasant stroll and the High Country Salmon Farm is also a local attraction. There is a floating cafe where visitors can sample Pacific King salmon sashimi and other delectable dishes and, feed the salmon.
