This architect-designed, energy-efficient extension to our private home provides a private, boutique Bed and Breakfast. It is made for visitors who appreciate tranquility, flower gardens, bird-song, mountain views, home-grown food and a place to truly relax. Attractive interior design and furnishings on a NZ Kingfisher (Kotare) theme and many home comforts, are earning us Geraldine's 'top-rating' reviews. We enjoy preparing breakfasts to order from our seasonal menu and can cater for special diets. Building accessibility for those with limited mobility is to Level 4 Lifemark standard. We provide an affordable luxury!
Anne is a creative cook whose cakes are proving popular in the Geraldine Summer Saturdays Farmer's Market, whilst Rhys leads on savoury dishes. We are 'foodies', according to our friends. Gardening is a passion and includes a productive fruit orchard. Music important to us - its been fun hosting several visiting musicians in the past year (see video clips on our website) and we also volunteer help to a local music performance and participation venue: Geraldine Academy of Performance and Arts. We cycle, support Geraldine cinema (for big-screen movies viewed from armchairs), dance and sing in a community choir. After over a decade living in South Canterbury we know the area and its visitor attractions well, including off the beaten track. We recommend this area for long weekends or 'slow tourism' instead of rushing through the South Island driving every day!
A Geraldine local history museum, not one but three car and old farm vehicle museums, a cinema, summer heated swimming pool, gym, squash and tennis, croquet and archery, two golf courses, a gin-distillery, a craft brewery, lace collection, bookshop, several art galleries and all the essential services of a country town are available within 5km. A range of off-road walking and cycling tracks nearby, plus companies who'll take you on outdoor and river-based adventures, horse riding or sight-seeing in the high country farms. Skifields within reach too. A great base for exploring South Canterbury on day trips: between Waimate, Fairlie, Tekapo, Mt Cook, Mayfield, Darfield and the coast at Timaru.
