The World famous Heaphy track offers young and old an unequalled opportunity to walk or mountain bike amongst Nikau Palm groves and view the rugged West Coast coastline along the fringes of the Kahurangi National Park.
The Karamea River is well-renowned for its Brown Trout fly fishing. Anglers can either access the river locally by vehicle or fly into the Kahurangi National Park by helicopter.
Numerous bush walks and cycle trails exist in and around Karamea.
The best kept of all secrets are the Oparara Caves and the spectacular Lime Stone Arch being the largest in the Southern Hemisphere - a time capsule of the prehistoric past tucked hidden away in the Kahurangi National Park.
