Taigh Na Mara is Scottish Gaelic for House by the Sea. This beautiful home was architecturally designed, with much thought being given to the layout of the house as a b&b. The two guest bedrooms located at one end of the house are spacious and sunny, with their own outdoor seating areas and private access. Rooms able to sleep up to 3 people. The lounge, dining and kitchen areas offer an open and welcoming feel, and lead out to a covered outdoor seating area that can be used all year round. The shared lounge has a cosy wood fire for winter, and a piano that guests are welcome to play. Mementoes from Carol’s travels can be seen throughout the lounge. Laundry and iron available. Your host’s rooms are located at the other end of the house.
The property is set in lovely garden areas, with a large vegetable garden, fruit trees in abundance, and colourful trees and flowers which offer something in bloom all year round. Complete with petanque court, the property has a sense of space, being bordered on two sides by open areas. A very short walk across the road takes you to a reserve which leads down onto the beach. White sand, safe swimming, and a quiet beach await you.
Your host at Taigh Na Mara is Carol Blair. Carol was born in the Orkney Islands off the north of Scotland and chose the name for the Bed and Breakfast in acknowledgement of her Scottish heritage. Her family emigrated to New Zealand when she was just a baby. While having mostly lived in Auckland until moving to the Coromandel in February 2015, Carol is no stranger to Kuaotunu, her parents having lived here for over 30 years. Her great passions in life are travel and cooking. She has travelled extensively, taking in cooking courses whenever the opportunity presented itself and is thrilled to now be able to share this with others, in a corner of the world that she feels is hard to beat. Gardening and kayaking are other keen interests and Taigh Na Mara also allows her to indulge in these activities. Carol is a social worker by profession and has worked particularly in the fields of health, and loss and grief. Carol would love to welcome you to Taigh Na Mara and share what she and this very special part of the world have to offer.
