Te Mahana Coastal Retreat is located centrally in the middle of the 8km long white sands of Waihi Beach, voted by Lonely Planet as one of the top ten beaches in New Zealand. The retreat has two guest accommodation units on the property, a self contained 2 bedroom cottage with private spa pool, full kitchen, living room and outdoor room with BBQ and a 3 bedroom apartment on the ground floor of the main house, also with full kitchen, dining and living with a private patio area with BBQ. Both units have shared use of the 10m salt water swimming pool, heated year-round (28-30 degrees) and the spa next to the pool. Wander across the road for a dip in the sea, wash off in the outdoor shower, then laze in the loungers by the pool followed by a wine in the hot tub - the choices are endless. Te Mahana Coastal Retreat is an ideal couple or friends getaway spot for a luxury beach retreat, or bring the kids for a fun family holiday. If you have a large family or want to invite more friends, why not book both units. Ideal for wedding parties and special celebrations.

Aside from the obvious of walking, swimming, surfing or fishing at Waihi Beach there are many other local attractions. Waihi Beach Village itself has lovely shops and cafes. You could soak in the hot pools in Athenree or walk through stunning native bush around the reservoir or up to the trig at the north end of the beach. A walk over to Orakawa Bay from the North end of the beach is a local favourite. You can hire bikes in Waihi town to take advantage of the many local biking trails. Waihi town (15 min drive from Waihi Beach) is famous for its gold mine, it’s a very interesting walk around it and worth checking out the award winning info centre about the mine in Waihi town. There's also a local train ride in the Karangahake Gorge, a nice way to see the area for those with little ones or mobility issues. Hiring bikes and biking the gorge trail through the old rail trail and in the tunnel finishing with a swim at the falls and lunching at the Waikino Pub is a great day out. A trip to Paeroa (30 min drive) is a nice little outing also, they have lots of antique stores and some nice cafes (The Refinery and Courtyard cafe & deli are the best).
