Enjoy modern comfort in this cozy private guesthouse. Perched atop a one-car garage in Dunedin's hillside Roslyn neighbourhood, its position high above a quiet residential street gives this tiny house a very private feel. Large double glazed windows on three sides and a spacious private deck provide sweeping views of Otago Harbour & Peninsula, walking distance from the city centre. Nestled among towering tree ferns, with an expansive view (both from the deck and from the bedroom) of harbour and peninsula.
There is one double bed on the main floor, and a double futon in the loft space above. A child-size mattress (70cm x 130cm) is also available and can be used either in the loft or on the floor of the main bedroom.
A full bathroom with privacy lock features a full-sized bathtub w/shower with high pressure hot water.
The kitchenette nestled behind the entrance door is equipped with microwave, toaster, fridge, electric induction hotplate, stainless steel cookware, electric jug/kettle. A gas barbecue is available for the exclusive use of guests on the covered portion of the deck.
Secure WiFi is provided to guests free of charge (gigabit fibre connection w/unlimited data); an ethernet port is also available.
We are American ex-pats who moved to Dunedin in 2011. We love outdoor adventures (we first met in a Seattle mountaineering course!), and even after years on the ground in NZ we remain in awe of the natural beauty of the South Island.
Professionally, Valeri is a self-employed architect and Trent is an economics lecturer at the university. Our daughter attended high school in Dunedin and is currently working as an educator in California's Yosemite National Park.
We live in the century-old villa at the top of the old stone staircase behind the guesthouse where our guests stay. We respect your privacy and will arrange for keypad check-in, but we enjoy meeting guests and answering questions about travel and life in Dunedin and the South Island.
Walking(driving) times to local destinations, in minutes: Roslyn Village 6(1); Moana Pool 8(1); Octagon 18(6); University of Otago 30(6); Forsyth Barr Stadium 45(10); Mercy Hospital 14(3); parking for Tunnel Beach (13); Mt. Cargill viewpoint (21); parking for glow worms at Nichols Creek (11); parking for Soldiers Memorial (15); bus stop 1. Note that we are near the top of the hill, so a walk downtown means a climb (or 10 dollar taxi ride) on the return! But for us the view from up here makes it worth the effort.
