Oleandros is a large field with fruit trees, bushes, flowers,, a sun terrace, a patio, all in the middle of the village. At the same time it is near the beaches. You can walk to Porto Barcas (15 m), or ride a bicycle or drive or walk to Gold Quality Peralta beach (20m) or drive (1,7 km) and enjoy good seafish at low prices in the small snack bar.
You can also choose one of the Gold Quality 2016 beaches: Areia Branca, Areia Sul, Porto Dinheiro, Valmitão.
Areia Branca is where you go if you want some fun at night.
Sports: in the area you can fish, dive, surf, golf. There are several proposals to get to know the region on foot.
You also find a rich historical and architectural heritage around this área: the castle church built in the 14th century is an exemple of early gothic, simple, well-preserved and very photogenic. It's the theme of many photos and paintings.
The cloister of S. Francis convent has lovely tiles of little angels which were left in the hands of unsupervised workers and the result is funny.
Along 12 km of coast you'll find large beaches, tiny and isolated beaches, cliffs, wild spots, several small fishermen villages and lots of fun.

I'm very proud that my favourites beaches were awarded a Gold Quality 2016 by Quercus, which is a sure sign of great quality: Peralta, near our place, Areia Branca, and Areia Sul, all 3 large extents of the finest white sand, Porto Dinheiro (3,5 km), and finally, Valmitão (6 km), also a large beach, next to the former.
I used to walk to Peralta in the morning, come home for lunch and then go to Porto das Barcas in the afternoon until sunset. That's how I kept fit and tanned,
Going early to the beach allows you to see all the birds preparing to start a hard day's work and take extraordinary pictures.
Fresh bread arrive to your door daily, and also fresh fish (except un mondays)
There isn't mass tourism in this area so you may enjoy private beaches. . Surf, diving, fishing are some activities you'll enjoy. The greatest oriental garden in Europe is only 23 km away.
We have several festivals all year round but especially in Summer: fish, seafish, octopus (May-June), pumpkins, pears, wine, harvest season, music, book sales, artcraft, second hand goods, etc.
People are hard-working and friendly. They enjoy open air living and most of them reach a ripe old age.
