Casa com Mãos is a typical Portuguese stone house, located on the hillside of Monte de Baixo, Marvão. It features three bedrooms, a living room, a fully equipped kitchen with dining area, a bathroom with bathtub, and a terrace with outdoor dining space offering panoramic views.
We’ve kept the original details intact, such as the chestnut wood ceiling, the large fireplace, and granite seating. All the furniture is vintage and pre-loved — better for the planet and better for the soul. The house has been decorated with care, an eye for color, and attention to detail to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
You’ll have the entire house to yourself (two floors), with a total living space of 100 m². On the first floor airconditioning keeps the house cool in summer and warm in winter.
Hi, I’m Marit. After many years of living and working in Amsterdam — first as a fashion designer and later as the chef and owner of a vegan restaurant — I moved to Portugal with my partner to start a new chapter.
We bought an old farmhouse in the Alentejo, renovated it and slowly turned it into a home. Along the way, we completely fell in love with Portugal and its warm, welcoming people.
More recently, Casa com Mãos crossed our path — a new project where we can bring together everything we love: creativity, renovation skills, and the joy of welcoming guests. It’s a place where we hope you’ll feel at home, inspired, and connected to the beauty of this land.
Monte de Baixo is located in the heart of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, in Portugal’s Alentejo region — an area known for its rugged hills, rich wildlife, and authentic charm. It’s the perfect place to unwind and disconnect. Bird lovers will be in their element here; all you need to do is step outside, sit down, watch, and listen.
The area is ideal for walkers of all levels, offering stunning views over the rolling landscape. Follow one of the walking trails along ancient paths that lead you past wildflowers, olive trees, cork oaks, and old stone walls. Perfect for anyone seeking peace, beauty, and the slow rhythm of rural Portugal.
The nearby village of Portagem has turned part of the river into a refreshing natural swimming spot and offers several nice places to eat and drink. The charming castle villages of Marvão and Castelo de Vide are full of culture and history. You can go horse riding in the countryside, and a nearby reservoir is ideal for swimming and picnics.
