We would like to inform you that, as of January 1, 2025, a new law came into force in the Azores that requires the collection of a tourist tax of 2 euros per night per guest for the first 3 nights of stay. This charge will apply to all guests, except in situations of exemption provided for in the legislation. Exemptions The following are exempt from paying the Municipal Tourist Tax: a) Guests under the age of 13; b) Guests whose stay is motivated by obtaining medical services, for the days necessary for treatment, plus one night's accommodation, extending this exemption to one person for the purpose of accompanying the sick guest, even if the latter does not stay overnight at the establishment for health reasons; c) Guests with tax residence in any municipality in the Autonomous Region of the Azores. For the purposes of the previous paragraph, at the time of payment of the tax, the guest must be accompanied by the following documentation: a) To prove the situations provided for in subparagraph a) of the previous paragraph, the respective citizen card or passport; b) To prove the situation provided for in subparagraph b) of the previous paragraph, a document proving the appointment/provision of medical services, or equivalent document, issued by a competent authority, with the respective date clearly indicated. c) To prove the situation provided for in subparagraph c) of the previous paragraph, an identification document with address/photograph, certificate of residence, or proof of address.
