About 10 years ago, I moved from Germany to Zanzibar. My husband Amour and I own a small bed & breakfast with 5 rooms and a sustainable tour company. Together, we stand for thoughtful, ecologically and socially responsible tourism. We love to welcome guests from all over the world, and open doors for them to experience the real, authentic Swahili culture and nature. The Caravan Serai Amour is situated in a traditional Stone Town family home that was initially built for an Imam (a person who leads prayers in the mosque) and his close relatives. A special architectural feature is the open-air courtyard in the common area that guests share when having breakfast, relaxing or socializing. On the building’s first floor, five individually styled rooms are furnished with fine antiques and unique, locally crafted treasures, creating a comfortable and cosy atmosphere. The Caravan Serai Amour is ideal for the individual budget-minded traveller seeking a special and authentic place to stay in the heart of Stone Town. Many small shops and a choice of local restaurants are in the immediate vicinity. Every evening, the Mkunazini street food bazaar just around the corner comes to life and offers a variety of local snacks and delicacies. The house can also accommodate families and groups of friends. To enjoy privacy, it is possible to rent the entire first floor. On the ground floor, our sister company, AMO Zanzibar Tours & Safari is located. Here, we offer thoughtful, sustainable activities and a truly authentic Zanzibar experience.
