Sol Mar is a family-owned home and we want you to enjoy the same wonderful experience as when we are on the island. Our philosophy is, “Mi Casa, tu casa” (My home is your home). Our unique island home is 75 steps from the beach with spectacular panoramic views. Included in your stay, is access to North Captiva Island Club with its heated pool, bar and restaurant. Guests can check-out kayaks on a complementary basis. The main level of the house (which is elevated to 23 ft) offers breathtaking views of the Gulf of Mexico. The lanai is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset, sunrise, read, nap, or simply BE. Since the house is adjacent to the island’s private airstrip, watching small airplanes land and take off an is a thrill that you will not soon forget. The fully equipped kitchen is located on this level as well as a full bathroom and two bedrooms. The second level has the master bedroom retreat complete with two private balconies, sunrise from one and sunset from the other! There is also a bonus room with a twin trundle bed.

Our family emigrated from Cuba many decades ago. As islanders, the ocean is an integral part of who we are and where we want to be. Sol Mar means Sun Sea and they are the perfect combination of words to embody North Captiva Island. We bought Sol Mar on a wing and a lot of prayers so that our family of 9 siblings, countless nephews, nieces, spouses and grandbabies would have a gathering place to laugh, to make memories, to enjoy each other, to rejuvenate, to heal. We come together in this special place to share the simple joys that life offers and to relish the gift of time. Our hope is that you will do the same. Why Sol Mar? The answer is easy: Sol Mar is a state of mind. Sol Mar is our family home. Although we have owned this house for over a decade, we were able to realize our dream of becoming part time island residents a few years ago so our theme, "Mi casa, tu casa" truly comes from the heart. Sol Mar is a gathering place, a dream realized through love and founded on the premise that we must take the time to slow down, enjoy each other, rejuvenate, love, laugh and play. Our hope is that every family or group that comes to Sol Mar experiences the wonder and magic she creates.

If you are searching for an island vacation that is different from all others, then search no more for you have stumbled upon North Captiva Island. Accessible only by boat, scheduled ferry, small airplane or helicopter, transportation on its sand roads is by golf cart (one is included with the house), bicycle, or on foot. Miles of pristine beaches, mangroves and a natural preserve comprise this mostly undeveloped island where swimming, sunbathing, boating, shelling, skiing, hiking, kayaking, bicycling, bird and wildlife watching are but a few of the preferred activities. Surrounded by 4 distinct bodies of water, the Gulf, Pine Island Sound, Captiva Pass and Red Fish Pass, North Captiva Island offers world class fishing both from its shores and just offshore. Manatees, dolphins, sea turtles and the occasional sea otters are daily visitors to our island. Ospreys, eagles and gopher tortoises are year-round residents. Our island is a short boat ride to the nearby islands of Sanibel, Captiva, Cayo Costa and Cabbage Key of Jimmy Buffett’s “Hamburger in Paradise” fame.
