The Nantahala community in western North Carolina is an area that is only now being discovered by visitors. Whitewater rafting and kayaking on the lower Nantahala River, plus trout fishing on the upper Nantahala River, have for a long time drawn visitors to the area. But high above the Nantahala River...Lake Nantahala, the Appalachian Trail, the Bartram Trail, and the natural scenic beauty of waterfalls, long range views, quite glens and rushing streams are being discovered by families from around the world. Summer homes and vacation cabins lie hidden in the lush green forest. Horse back riding stables and zip lines are now sprinkled through the mountains. The nearby small mountain towns of Andrews, Bryson City and Franklin are now home to first class restaurants, scenic train rides, theaters and entertainment for children, yet Nantahala retains its quiet side where nature rules and visitors live near forest life and the rugged beauty of the western North Carolina mountains.
