Welcome to Grand Lake
Nestled at 8,367 ft (2,550 m), Grand Lake is Colorado’s largest natural body of water. Originally known as “Spirit Lake” by the native Ute tribe, it was historically a hunting base and supply center for nearby mining communities.

In 1947, water began being diverted east via the Alva B. Adams Tunnel as part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, supporting agriculture, industry, municipal needs, and hydroelectric power.

Historic Attractions
Kauffman House Museum
Built in 1892, it operated as a hotel until 1946. Now a museum with rotating exhibits.
Spitzmiller Cabins
Built in the 1930s and now restored as the Grand Luxe Courtyard Cabins.
