Situated in the heart of Franschhoek, Les Chambres Guest House is only a 2-minute walk from some of the Cape Wineland’s finest restaurants. The elegant garden features an outdoor pool. The stylish rooms in the restored Victorian House are decorated with a mix of antique and modern furniture. All have both air-conditioning and floor heating, and tea/coffee facilities are provided. A buffet breakfast is served daily, and in the summer months can be enjoyed al fresco on the patio by the pond. After breakfast guests can relax on one of the benches in a garden full of native plants. All of the communal areas have free Wi-Fi access and a broadband-enabled computer is also available. The staff can organise bicycle or car hire and a shuttle service is available upon request. There are many hikes in the region and the Pearl Valley Golf Course in only 15 km away. The Huguenot Monument is located 300 metres from Les Chambres.

Only one hour from Cape Town and twenty minutes from both Paarl and Stellenbosch, Franschhoek is the perfect base from which to explore and enjoy the Cape region. The village has become one of the top destinations for visitors travelling to South Africa and upon your first visit you will understand why; the entire valley, not just the village itself, is Breathtaking.

After the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in France in 1685, when Protestantism was outlawed, hundreds of so-called Huguenots fled their homeland, 277 of them arriving by ship at the Cape of Good Hope. Many of them were given land by the Dutch government in a valley called Oliphantshoek (Elephant’s Corner) – so named because of the vast herds of elephants that roamed the area. Soon after they settled here, it become known as Franschhoek (French Corner). This heritage lives on today with the Huguenot monument standing proudly at the top of the village. The museum nearby chronicles the history of those brave pioneers, with each of the original Huguenot farms having its own fascinating story to tell.
