When our four children were small, I gave extra math classes from home. After some years as a teacher, I decided to enroll for further studies and qualified in 2008 as psychologist. I have a small private practice at home and if you're interested you are welcome to schedule an appointment with me. One of my passions is psychological wellbeing and I would love to facilitate you to live a good quality life. As a psychologist I also do volunteer work in a nearby community where typical problems I encountered have to do with relationships, trauma, drug abuse, childhood problems, parenting skills, etc. My husband is working full-time. After a career change in 1998 he is now in the business of solar and wind energy. Storyhouse is another passion of both of us and we're always busy upgrading and renovating our little Storyhouse: he is doing woodwork (making cupboards, tables, mirror frames, install shelves, etc); doing paintwork; etc., while I am sewing (curtains, cushions, clothes, etc.) and looking after the garden.

On a sunny day in April 1987, while on holiday in Kommetjie we asked a property agent to show us around. We were interested in buying a vacant erven in order to build our own holiday home. We couldn't believe the beautiful area with its mountains, white sandy beaches, quaint villages and rich natural flora. At that time my husband, me and our four small children were camping in a nearby caravan park. About ten years later we moved from Johannesburg to Kommetjie where the granny flat had already been built. With four adolescent children we found ourselves in a little too small holiday home so, we started adding rooms. We thoroughly enjoyed the building project and because my husband Charl is very handy and loves to work with wood, he could do all cupboards, tables, couches, etc, saving us a lot of money. While we were building, the heap of round white rocks coming from the foundations just grew higher and higher, so we decided instead of throwing it away, we were going to build a boundary wall. Believe it or not but I can truthfully say that Charl and I built the wall ourselves. When our children left home, we decided to use the house as a guest house.

Guests enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this quiet village near Cape Point. There is few traffic and visitors enjoy exploring the village on foot. The foot path amongst fynbos towards the highest lighthouse along South Africa's coastline is a favourite. Kommetjie with its stretched-out sandy beach, Long Beach, has beautiful views towards Hout Bay. Kommetjie has a few restaurants, a Deli, a Community Garden and superette. Use Kommetjie as a base to explore the South Peninsula and its quaint villages like Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek and Simonstown. Only about an hour's drive you'll find the famous winelands of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl-Wellington. Depending the traffic, Komemtjie is only a 30-35 minute drive to Cape Town International Airport, Cape Town and the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.
