First, the location was perfect for our stays. We used the trains several times and loved that our walk to the station was less than 3 minutes. Second, the rooms (we had 2 different rooms) were quiet and dark (which we have at home and love); third, the rooftop bar/breakfast area was extraordinary! Fourth, the thoughtfulness in the design of the rooms did not go unnoticed - reading lights bedside, charging areas next to bedside, the solid wood door that slides to block daylight, the complimentary refreshments in the drawer, the hair dryer and straightening iron, robes and slippers. Lastly, it's a testament to the bedding and linens - my husband and I slept great, and that never happens at a hotel. We loved our stay!

TO start the staff was ALL amazing! They were so kind and helpful, it was incredible. One of the best experiences I have had at a hotel. The room was beautiful with the most incredible mini bar I have ever seen. We partook in quite a bit of that. The bed was super comfortable. The toiletries were top notch and they even had a robe, slippers, hair dryer & straightener!! I was in heaven. The design is stunning with a ton of beautiful and cool funky art. The breakfast was mouth watering. Even if not staying there you should totally eat there. My husband said it was the best chicken and waffles he has ever had. It was the perfect stay I wish we had planned a longer stay here. Next time we are back in Edinburgh we will 100% stay here!

Lots of fun things to see and do and just a nice place to hang out. Loads of lunch spots; we would recommend the Whiskey and Haggis arcade and suggest try the Robert Burns Famous Haggis with whiskey sauce; one portion is enough for 2 people.

The real St Mary's Close.

The real St Mary's Close. Amazing "Museum" which is actually a series of uncovered streets that were originally built beneath the current road, below the town. When the plague hit, the poor were entombed there. The history of it was mind-boggling. A must to see. The Mile itself just great to walk, stop, sip a drink or two. The Dome restaurant and Bars wonderous at Xmas. Fantastic array of external and internal Christmas lights, trees.

Very good location, on the Royal Mile but not in the busiest part. Central enough that you can easily go back to the hotel to drop off things during the day. Large rooms compared to most European hotel rooms. Firm mattress which I prefer. Nice obliging staff. Provided us with an extra duvet and fixed some TV problems promptly.

Great location as walking distance to Royal Mile. the hotel staff was very helpful in helping find a parking place for our car. he warned us about potential heavy fines if we do not pay at spots close to hotel. the room was clean and comfortable. the hot chocolate was awesome - the kids loved it plus the cookies. no breakfast within hotel but hotel told us we could get discount from eateries opposite the hotel. we went to rabbles - the food and place was so good that my kids insisted we go there again.

Staff were super friendly, the rooms were clean and modern and felt safe due to using passcodes and the general feel, as well as the beds being comfy and private. It was also excellent to get a 15% discount in the cafe as a member staying at hostel, and further the staff helped people meet with beer tasting and free events for hostelees! The location was amazing, you can’t fault stepping out the door and being directly on the Royal Mile!

Lots to like here: the location is in the heart of the Old Town, a stone's throw from the Royal Mile. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable, if basic, and the shower was the best I have had in a hotel in years. The bonus was finding the kitchen, stocked with cereals, milk, juice, bread, conserves teas, filter coffee and eggs, so I got a pretty decent breakfast included! Would I stay again? Hell, yes!

Walking from the Castle down the Royal Mile to Holyrood House with the new Parliament en route takes some beating in terms not just of historical content but also of ease of travel-it's a straight downhill walk. On the way talk to people-some of the locals actually know a lot about their City and take a pride in it.

St. Giles on the Royal Mile is several hundreds of years old. My family attended a pipe organ recital there one evening. What an awesome and thunderous sound that huge organ made, but could produce the most delicate melodies as well. Highly recommend taking some time to study the beautiful architecture as well as the gorgeous stained glass windows and the history surrounding this or any cathedral, for there is always a history to be known.

As a city Edinburgh is steeped in history, all the areas off the Royal Mile has a tale to tell. The city offers a number of good tours both by bus and feet for getting to know the past and how people lived. The city also offers an insight to famous personalities of the past such as Sir Walter Scott, Robert Louis Stevenson and Rabbie Burns
