Castello di Miramare cuts a romantic figure atop the cliffs of the Gulf of Trieste. Nestled in 54 acres of flourishing gardens, the castle was first commissioned in the 1800s by Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian. Stripped during World War I, it has since been restored to decadent 19th-century glory, with the room layout and original furniture arranged just as Maximilian intended.
