It would be a shame to visit Amsterdam and not see a real windmill in action, especially when nearby Zaanstreek is chock-full of them. Head northwest of Centraal Station and you’ll hear the whoosh of the region’s windmills after just an hour’s ride. Alternatively, you can take a train straight to Zaandam and hire a bike there.
