The impressive Alanya Castle dominates the rocky peninsula on which it stands. Its 6.5 km of walls surround the remaining fortifications, much of which now make up a freely accessible open-air museum. Tickets to the inner fortresses provide glimpses of mosques, a Byzantine church and, recently excavated, what is thought to be the palace of the Sultan. Staggering Mediterranean panoramas abound from the castle’s viewing platform.
