We loved everything about this ryokan! The room, the onsen, the food, and the service were all excellent. This is truly a place where you can eat well and completely relax.
Yufuin Onsen, Yufu
Boasting an open-air bath, garden and views of mountain, Ikkoten is situated in Yufu, 50 km from Crasus Dome Oita. This ryokan offers free private parking and full-day security. The accommodation features a hot spring bath, free WiFi throughout the property and family rooms. I had the pleasure of spending 3 nights at Ikkoten with my three children, and our stay was nothing short of perfection. We were originally going to stay as a family of 5 at the KAI Yufuin but when an important business trip took my husband out of the vacation we had to quickly pivot because my ten year old son wouldn’t have been able to use the hot springs alone there. The reservable family onsen as well as our private indoor/outdoor onsen (we stayed in Kyara) allowed him to have as wonderful an experience as the girls and I. While the family onsen is great, we loved the convenience and privacy of our private one so much that we ended up using the family onsen only once. Notably, this is not a part of Japan where there’s a ton of English spoken, but the staff at Ikkoten had excellent English, which was super helpful for us as American visitors. They were super accommodating of the kids and provided samue (pajamas that are also worn to meals), geta (wooden sandals), and slippers in multiple sizes. The grounds are beautiful - a back drop of tall seeene forest (you can always here the serene sound of wind rushing through the leaves and pine needles), mountains at Mt Yufu on the other sides, and then a beautiful manicured garden. Our late March stay marked the beginnings of all kinds of blooms, and just standing outside you’d catch the perfumed scent of all kinds of beautiful flowers. The meals were absolutely incredible. The kids got wonderful multi-course meals of rice and tempura and miso soup (with a little bit of new and interesting dishes to try too). My 12 year old daughter was considered an adult by the resort, but when I requested kids meals for her, they were happy to pivot after 24 hours (the kaiseki meals were just too much for her 40kg frame!!). But those kaiseki meals were truly scrumptious. When booking the property for multiple nights, I hadn’t realized how overwhelming they could be, and I swear I gained like 10lbs just in those 3 days alone!!

Among the facilities of this property are a restaurant, a lift and full-day security, along with free WiFi throughout the property. The ryokan has family rooms. We booked the premium room with tatami area. Our room was really spacious and clean. I really liked how there was a private garden in our room—really peaceful and lovely. When we entered the room, we were met with the living room, with a view of the garden where you can spend time on the veranda! There’s also a mini kitchen with cutleries! The dressing room, restroom, bathroom, and the best of them all the PRIVATE ONSEN were separated. (All of the rooms were really big!) There were two bedrooms—one in the tatami room where they laid out the futon for us. I really enjoyed the kaiseki course at their restaurant Matsuhide—each course was carefully crafted and use of local ingredients. And their breakfast was superb! They drove us to the Seikai building—the breakfast buffet had a large variety of Japanese dishes. It was really good too. Sadly, we only booked for a night, so we didn’t get to enjoy their various facilities as much as we’d like (there were the Gahama tower and onsen). Another thing I’d like to mention was the tea ceremony building! Read the history posted in front and was amazed by the historical significance of it!

Everything is so luxurious but feels so good and warm. People are so nice and warm welcome. Dinner and breakfast are sophisticated and delicious. The food was nice and fresh. There was a private room for both meals. Breakfast with a mountain view was spectacular.
Loved the staff...really great. Superb On Sen. Great breakfast from top floor restaurant. Very good sized rooms, for Japan.
Very good service. The dinner was awesome. Private baths were unique and superb. We're big group of over 10 people but having a great wonderful time here.
The location is excellent, offering easy access to nearby attractions, and the onsen was superb, providing a truly relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
We loved our stay, the room was outstanding with an amazing view. The Chef was from a different planet, both the breakfast and dinner were exceptional and exceeded all expectations, a gem! The staff was amazing and very helpful during our stay. We were very grateful to stay at ENOWA and would highly recommend to stay and enjoy an amazing experience. Arigato!
A truly wonderful experience. The food was the best I've ever eaten. Dinner was about 8 courses and seemed Michelin star quality to an amateur like me! The cabin we had with a large, private onsen was beautiful. The view of the mountain from the onsen was sublime. The accommodation was not extravagant or luxurious but authentic and comfortable. An experience we won't forget - magical.
This boutique hotel was a gift. Yes it's gorgeous, perched on the side of the mountain with stunning views and luxury accom like having your own onsen but it was the staff who really made it outstanding....Maria, Tui and everyone else were incredibly responsive and helpful...not only when due to train changes, we were 2 hours late arriving (the kitchen staff held our dinner) but also when we left a phone with our JR passes in the taxi. (which we were able to recover!!!)
Everything about our stay was perfect: great and very friendly host, superb room with magnificent view, comfortable futon, nice terrace, cute cat, relaxing (private) onsen, sparkling clean, beautiful and quiet surroundings, exceptional service. We regret not staying longer! Thank you so much Jin!!
The location is within walking distance from Beppu station. The place is really lovely with private decoration. The interior is superb, and the vibe is outstanding.
