Where do I start? Simply the absolute best hotel in all of Europe, at least where I have stayed and I have been in many. I was here in 2018 with family and we loved it. I took my wife this time and she loved it too! The Cartlon Hotel sets the gold standard of how hotels should be run. Boutique hotels like this are a rare breed. Run by a family they know there business and nothing had changed since my visit in 2018. I would come back to Gent, Belgium just to stay at this hotel.
Excellent location As a registered guest, arranged exemption from a fine for driving in the pedestrian area (necessary to access parking) Excellent parking (€30 per 24 hours) Really nice room with street view Reasonable bar prices
Lovely old house. Privately owned and feels very loved-for. Owner checked me in and was serving breakfast the following day. He is a musician and speaks perfect English. The antithesis of an Ibis or indeed the ugly modern Marriott across the road. Nothing fancy, so perhaps not right for those who value globally homogeneous sheen. However if you wish to spend time in an ancient merchant’s house and don’t really care how modern the bathroom fittings are, then I recommend Erasmus without qualification.
Superbly situated for exploring Ghent on foot (and Ghent is well worth exploring). Very modern and comfortable, very professionally run, highly competent and very helpful staff. Very good and easily accessible parking facilities which aren't that common in hotels in this type of location (be sure to follow the hotel's advice and register your car in advance to legally access the city centre). We had a flat tyre on our day of departure, and the manager could not have been more helpful in getting it sorted for us. Thank you, sir!
Fabulous room, and view. Brilliant extras like toiletries, bottled water every day,a chocolate everyday. Excellent breakfasts. All the staff we came across were very helpful and welcoming and because it was my daughter's 50th birthday they left a card and chocolates in our room. We can't thank you all enough for making our stay so special. It was our first stay in a Marriott hotel,I hope they are all as perfect as this one
Great hotel. Fantastic location. It’s what we have come to expect of a Marriott Hotel. Great feeling of space. Staff very professional and helpful.
In an absolutely ideal location to explore the old town of Ghent on foot. Lots of restaurants, cafes and bars near by. The cathedral is round the corner. A number of nearby car parks make it easy to get to by car. For being so central, it was surprisingly quiet. We stayed on a Sunday night, so that may have contributed. Would definitely come again.
The staff and the property was magnificent. Could not have been a better trip to get Marriott made it even better. Highly recommend and location is a 10
I've stayed here several times - its probably the best Marriott I've ever stayed in. The staff are great, the bar / atrium is really nice, the rooms large and beds really comfy, the breakfast is excellent - but stepping out the back onto Korenlei is like stepping into Narnia. A great place to stay when visiting Ghent!
Big room, comfortable bed, frig in room. Breakfast is in frig and fresh bread brought to your door in the morning. Cheeses and sandwich meats, some sweets . Everything was very clean. Host was very nice and attentive. Location is right in the center of the city. Make sure you get the Climate/CO2 registration done to enter the city. Pay parking on street outside house
