Our stay at V.G.I. was fantastic. We initially planned to stay for two days, but ended up staying a week. The longer we stayed, the more we enjoyed it—not just the accommodation, but the experiences we had. As nature lovers, we aimed to observe as many animals as possible, and we succeeded 100%. Some of our favorite sightings included giant hornbills, iguana, jardon's nightjar, giant squirrels, paradise flycatchers, pond herons, crocodiles, deer, and elephants. For transportation to Ihala Kottiyaba, there are buses from the new bus station in Anuradhpra at 12:00, 14:30, and 18:00. Alternatively, you can go to the Parasangavewa junction and take a tuk-tuk (or a3-hour walk :). What we loved most: -The friendly and helpful people in the surrounding villages. They will take care of you. -Our host, Muthalif. Everyone in the 20 km area knows him, so you can explore freely and still feel safe. -Great day trips with visits to lakes and forests, and meeting wonderful people. (We ended up at W.N park once,  didnt pay for safari or anything.) -Crocodiles cruising the nearby lake every morning after sunrise. -The delicious dinners. During the hottest hours, we enjoyed relaxing around the house. If you can't sleep in the heat, opt for the AC room.

I had an incredible stay at this property! Having visited Anuradhapura before, I can honestly say this time felt like a real getaway. The location is perfect—close to all the must-see landmarks, which made it so easy to explore the history and culture of the area. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by how peaceful and welcoming the place felt. The rooms were spacious, modern, and spotless, and the food was absolutely fantastic—definitely five-star quality. One of the highlights for me was the calm, zen-like atmosphere, especially while relaxing by the beautiful pool. Between the peaceful surroundings, great amenities, and friendly staff, everything exceeded my expectations. Amazing place. Great service, the family is so kind and really does everything to make your stay the best it could be. They helped me with arranging a reliable and friendly driver to get from the airport to the guest house, and we stopped multiple times so I could try local fruits, so sweet. The son of the household showed me around Mihintale, and the parents provided a lovely meal every morning and evening at my requested time - absolutely amazing food that will keep you going for days haha! The room was very nice and clean. I was looking for something a bit more fancy, and definitely got what I was looking for and for a great price. Super comfortable bed and pillows, soft sheets and a nice bathroom. Environment is super calm and great if you're looking for some peace and quiet. Peacocks, chameleons and beautiful butterflies all around, you can spot everything from the comfort of your breakfast table. Honestly couldn't think of any improvements!

Janaka is THE host—truly exceptional in the hospitality scene in Sri Lanka. He is incredibly kind and welcoming, making us feel completely at home, while also being highly professional and attentive to all our needs. He went out of his way to help us plan our days in Mihintale exactly as we wished—and what he managed to organize for us was no small feat! He was also genuinely concerned for our safety throughout our stay: while Sri Lanka is a very safe country, his attentiveness was still much appreciated. The food cooked by his wife was amazing—made with quality ingredients, prepared beautifully, and full of bold, authentic flavor. Easily one of the top three meals we had in Sri Lanka. If you're planning a trip to Anuradhapura or Mihintale to explore the sacred Buddhist sites, and you're looking for something authentic and off the tourist trail, stay in Mihintale. It's rich with temples and spiritual atmosphere. Stay at Janaka’s place, ask him for advice, and you won’t be disappointed.

We had an amazing stay at this holiday home in Anuradhapura. The rooms were spacious, very clean, and up to a high standard—much better than we expected for the price. The whole place felt relaxing and well maintained. The service was excellent, and the breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Anuradhapura.

Everything was wonderful. Comfortable clean bed with mosquito nets. Nice clean bathroom. Wimal and his family put a lot of love into making sure everything is perfect. When we didn’t need dinner the first night he brought us tea and biscuits with bananas. Make sure that you eat there !!! Dinner and breakfast were amazing. The best food we have had in Sri Lanka. Even the fresh juice was the best mix. We would go back anytime.

heaven. after arriving you can forget about everything. silence, pool, birds, beer. nothing was missing. in the evening don't get scared by the cow grazing behind the concrete fence. you won't see anything but it is there. : )
