What a great place. Top notch location for the avid walker, with lovely rambles everywhere. Excellent breakfast and dinner too. Kind and helpful staff. Beautiful and very clean room.I slept very well indeed!

The location, the views, the history, the restaurant. Room was as described - King bed, big room, big bathroom. Views down the lawn to the lake were beautiful. It’s a short 5-10 minute walk up to Donnington Castle and walking around the grounds is beautiful too. Plus a short 20 min drive over to Highclere Castle. Fun fact: the golf course is the location of a civil war battle!

We made a last-minute booking at the Hare & Hounds in Newbury, and it was fabulous! They followed up our booking with a lot of questions, including if/when we wanted a dinner/breakfast booking, what kind of tea we wanted in the room, and if we were celebrating anything (which we were). When we arrived, the staff were amazing and friendly and had our dinner/breakfast booking ready and had decorated our room for our anniversary! The room was obviously newly renovated, as was the whole property. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant were delicious and again, the staff were very friendly. Their patio looked lovely, but it was quite stormy, so we couldn’t take advantage. We wish that we could have stayed longer, and have told our friends in the area about the hotel and restaurant so that they can pass it on to other visitors. We will definitely book here again when we are in the area. Thanks!!

I cannot fault this accommodation whatsoever ! A superb room which exceeds anything you'd expect from a pub location. Brilliant coffee machine , quiet, first class comfort and nothing was too much trouble for our host Nathan. Superb breakfast. We will return.

We LOVED working with Maddie! She was VERY helpful and personable. The rooms were cute and the pub is cozy and THE FOOD IS AMAZING. It's an authentic experience staying here. It's not super clean or luxurious- BUT it's a real experience and I hope to go back.

    Peaceful location and good for walking the dog. Breakfast was very good. We had the full English and it was very nice. Breakfast staff were extremely pleasant. Dog friendly, though there is a £20 charge.

    The room was clean, comfortable and spacious! Check-in was really quick and easy. We brought our dog with us and they provided a dog bed, water bowl and some treats for her (which she loved!). We only stayed one night and had to leave early, so didn’t get the chance to try the food. We appreciated the coffee station and the fan in our room!

    We had a wonderful stay. We rented the small cottage opposite the pub. It was comfortable, well-equipped, and full of character. Breakfast each morning was exceptional - one of the best cooked breakfasts we've ever had. The pub is dog-friendly, and has a resident dog, which we all loved, especially our children. The staff were friendly and helpful. We explored the village, and also several neighbouring villages, all of which were delightful. We will definitely return.

    The room was really lovely. With everything we needed, including a dog bed, dog bowl and dog treats. It was small but big enough for an overnight stay and very clean and cozy. Our evening meals were very well presented and quite tasty and the breakfast was very good.

    The staff were amazing very friendly and helpful went over above to make us feel welcome. The food was outstanding and the landlords are great. Their pet friendly and were happy to have our cats staying. They even allowed us to keep our cat food in their fridge as I said they're amazing people and this really is a great place to stay. Wilson the landlords dog is literally the best dog ever so sweet and friendly. Would highly recommend a stay here and we will be back again if we have a show in the area. Thanks to everyone 😃
