It wasn't busy at all as I was travelling in the low season, but it's very comfortable, with nice shower and Aircon, free coffee, well behaved and friendly local staff, and a very funny, generous and accomodating owner, Philip. I think the project and developmwnt of the place is excellent and I really enjoyed my time there.

It's in an excellent location right on the river in the quiet spot of bukit lawang but still only a short walk from where all the action is and if you don't wish to walk there is a taxi service very close by which will get you into town. The rooms are very nice and the food choices are good and there is soft drinks and beers available for those that wish. Also the garden area is very beautiful with a lot of wildflowers and butterflies flying around so it's a pleasure even just to sit on your balcony and enjoy the view

I truly loved everything about Mario Lakeside. The location is peaceful and beautiful, right by the lake — perfect for relaxing. The room was clean, cozy, and well-maintained. What made this place special is the heart behind it. The owner, Pak Ali, is a kind and inspiring person. He also runs a foundation for children with cleft lips in Sumatra — which made my stay feel even more meaningful. Upstairs, there’s a vegetarian café with delicious food. They grow some of their ingredients on-site (farm-to-table concept), and I was blown away by the haloumi sandwich – they even import the cheese from the UK! It’s not just a place to stay, it’s a place that stays with you. I’d definitely come back if I visit Toba again.

Very accommodating. I did the jungle trek and night time trek and had an amazing time on both. Obiwan is a great host and looked after me very well. Especially as a young solo traveller with just 36 hours in Bukit Luwang!

The owners are really sweet and helpful, they are just the best of the best. They also gave us good food recommendations :) Room was super spacious, the bed is just amazingly comfortable :) Everything is super clean and near to local bus stop in town (just 10 min walk) 100% recommended!!!

I was very happy with how close it is to that water and the boats are moored right out front. Food was different every meal, a mix of Spanish meals and Indonesian and also some Italian. Paco was super helpful organising our fast ferry over there and back, the staff were legends too. Would recommend anyone to stay here.
