The driver was on time and drove safely. He also pointed out some sights and stopped off at a gorgeous coffee shop en route :)

Muscat International Airport is 226 km away. The location of the property is at the start of Balcony walk. We stayed one night and started Balcony walk at 8am. Before groups. We returned at 11.30 and took a shower. Our car was parked in front of the room. For getting there you definitely need 4WD car. Last few kilometers are realy bad. There is posibility for local breakfast for 3orm per person. There is also a small kitchen where you can prepare a breakfast on your own. The host was friendly. He explain us everything. He was waiting for us with tea.

One of the best things about Oman is how they have managed to make their heritage and tradition an intrinsic part of the tourist experience, and nowhere exemplified that better than Misfah Heritage House. The house and entire village have been lovingly restored and maintained, and the attention to detail and making things harmonious is something to behold. It is like a living museum, but the whole community have taken practical steps to make it work for them and visitors. Hamed takes the time to give the guests a hugely informative tour of the village once they arrive, and with his family being resident for generations, there is no better person. He and the rest of the staff live and breathe Misfah and their love of the village informs all decisions about how to share it. We didn't have time to explore the option, but they offer several touring experiences in the area to suit different interests and fitness levels. The room was comfortable serene and calm with the main concession to modernity being aircon, which was welcome! They also offer a dinner option, which was a very satisfying mix of warm and cold dishes in a great dining space that overlooks the date farm and looks across to the new village. Breakfast is served in the same space and it is equally charming in the morning. The village is easily explored from there and there are several wonderful walks in the vicinity. The chief draw however is still probably Hamed and the rest of staff who have a wealth of stories and advice. Their tourism approach is something that could be replicated through the rest of Oman, but maybe not their warmth and hospitality which is entirely their own.

Located in the village of Misfat Al- Abriyeen in the state of Al-Hamra, Al Misfah Hospitality Inn is about 200 kilometers away from Muscat.

Its a restored ancient house overlooking the green palm groves and situated at the top of the house the famous Rogan Castle built more than 1500 years ago. Beautiful place in a restored traditional clay house located in an incredible panorama. Dinner and breakfast are served on a terrace with a great view and are tasty. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The owner introduced himself during dinner and invited us to a complementary tour through his museum in the morning, which was also brilliant. He is writing a book about the history of Misfat, so he had lots of knowledge and interesting stories to tell. Highly recommend this place!
