There is a fully equipped private bathroom with shower and free toiletries. We had an incredible stay at this lodge, and a big part of that was thanks to the amazing owner. He is truly one of the kindest and most helpful hosts we’ve ever met. When the airline failed to deliver our bags, he personally took charge—calling every day, staying in touch with the airline, and doing everything he could to make sure we got our luggage back. We felt so supported and cared for. He also organized all of our activities, and they were fantastic: turtle hatching, a trip to the mange sandbank with a beach BBQ and snorkeling, a visit to the north of the island, Chole Island snorkling trips and whale shark watching. Everything was smooth, well-planned, and stress-free thanks to him. The lodge isn’t right on the beach, but the owner provides bikes for free, and with them it’s a quick and easy ride to the shore. The rooms are comfortable and air-conditioned! Dinner at the lodge is optional each day, and it’s a full three-course meal (starter, main, dessert) for just $15. The portions are generous and the food was consistently delicious. Overall, the atmosphere was welcoming, relaxed, and safe. We truly felt at home here and highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

The area was quiet and the balcony was overlooking the sea. We felt like we were in paradise!! They made a big effort to make it eco friendly, which we loved. We will definitely go back! Both free WiFi and parking on-site are available at the bed and breakfast free of charge. The bed and breakfast features family rooms and facilities for disabled guests. The food was delicious. The staff were very accommodating, and the location is close to all of the major activities i.e. snorkeling, sailing, tours, scuba, … I also really like that Mafia BB is the only locally owned accommodation with all local staff. All of the other locations I visited in Utende are owned by foreigners with a slightly uncomfortable dynamic with local staff.

Ally is the perfect host, very kind, helpful and responsive. He organized for a tuk tuk to pick us up at the airport on arrival and he called one for us anytime that we needed it. He’s also very helpful to organize tours and activities. Location is great, outside of the marine park area so there’s no tax to pay everyday and it’s where locals live. Close to the beach and a few min of tuk tuk to the airport area where there are a few nice places to eat, it’s also possible to go there walking, which we did every time, you just need the torch. Also not far away from the marine park by tuk tuk. Room is basic but exactly as in the pictures, pretty spacious and clean. There is no hot water but that honestly is not a problem at all considering the temperatures, besides, I think this is the same in pretty much the whole island. Breakfast is good and they are also very flexible on the time if asked. Value for money is great so overall it’s the perfect place to explore Mafia on a budget. Hope to come back. Asante sana!
