Firstly the vibe of the place - this is not your standard cookie cutter resort in PD. This has a very unique style with massive murals, funky coloured furniture, and all the comforts. Uniquely, in the pool area there's the facilities of a standard kitchen providing guests the option to prepare their meals (Coles is just a short walk) and relax in a shaded dining area poolside. The pool area had a calming waterfall and it was great to hang out and experience peace and tranquility. As a solo traveller it was great to meet other guests of all nationalities and enjoy each other's company.
Staff were very friendly and helpful in arranging my return transportation to Cairns at very short notice - Ruth you're a superstar!
The ownership has transformed a standard '60's vintage Motel into a truly unique property - hats off to them!

We stayed in unit 15 which was fully renovated and overlooked the pool from the first floor. Close to absolutely everything but in a nice quiet area. The 3-bedroom unit was large and had everything you could possibly need. My wife now has lots of decorating ideas for our place. Convenient off-street parking.

Right near beach and walking distance to shops/restaurants. Clean, well appointed room. Comfortable beds. Thoughtful additions in kitchen such as ice bucket and several ice trays in freezer. Board for cheese platter, variety of wine glasses etc. very happy and would definitely stay again 😊

We love Mossman as a quick stay on our way to the Daintree. The Woolies is great to re stock, we had pies from the lovely organic dough pie shop and were excited to be traveling through on a Saturday as Mossman markets are one of our favorites (and we’ve visited a few!)

Cottonwood is like an estate all to yourself, well- and fully-appointed, in close proximity to Port Douglas, Mossman, Daintree & the rainforest. More than enough amenities. It might be considered "expensive" by some but not by us, not for what you get for your money. Amenities? It does not lack any and actually exceeds what most would consider "more-than-enough", much less "the basics". And the Hosts are just that, to a tee: Helpful beforehand and during our stay. Thank you very much.

Great touring options available from Port Douglas into the surrounding area including to the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rain Forrest. Numerous restaurants, cafes and pubs for eating out. Carefully choose your time of year travelling due to the climate and tour availability.

Mossman is actually closer to the Daintree and Cape...
Mossman is actually closer to the Daintree and Cape Tribulation than Port Douglas, but Port is a very short drive away to be able get to reef cruises and activities there.
Mossman is the old town, still with elements of 'country', check out the Exchange Hotel (there is a Woolworths on the edge of town - I wish they'd hide it behind large trees) and a regular market every Saturday (10.00 am - 1.00 pm) in the historic church grounds.
It is not overwhelmed by tourism, but the surrounding areas have B&B and accommodation options.
Mossman Gorge is an amazing upland rainforest experience.
You get one of the mini-busses from the Visitor Info Centre (every 15 mins until 5.30 pm) This takes you to the walking trail. The first part is boardwalk, then an easy bush trail in a circuit.
The forest is spectacular, very relaxing to see & hear the water of the Mossman River. Sit on the seating or a rock near the trail and wonder at the profusion of life that fills every space.
TIP: Take a towel & wear swimmers, as there is a rock pool about 2/3 of or the way along the bush trail with clear fresh water, safe to wade & cool off in.

Amazing sights and beautiful scenery. It was very humid so we were in the pool most of the time and restaurants didn’t have air conditioner and were a bit pricy. But otherwise beautiful place to stay and see. Would definitely recommend it.
