Naples is a large city with a lot of car and scooter traffic. Getting around the city may be overwhelming at first but once you learn how to travel on the Metro train system it gets much easier. The trains & stations are clean & safe & signage is clearly posted. The restaurants in Naples are excellent and are very good value. The pizza is AMAZING! Naples is also a great place to stay if you want to visit Pompeii, The Amalfi Coast, Sorrento for day trips. Excellent Picasso museum (not the house, though that's interesting, but the gallery). But make sure to book a time slot. Upper floors of the Thyssen gallery are worthwhile, the lower floors less so. Lovely food, even if my favourite was actually food from Cadiz. Buzzy without being overcrowded in October, and still warm enough to swim. Good rail connections for a day trip to Cordoba or Seville. Valencia is a delight – from its charming cafés and kind locals to must-try dishes like paella, octopus, churros, and horchata. The city also has plenty of specialty coffee spots with great service, and we could still swim in the sea in early October. The Oceanarium with its dolphin show and beluga whales was amazing, and there was even a city festival during that time, which made the experience even better. Getting around was easy – the buses and trams work great; we even went to the beach by bus and tried the hybrid tram-metro once. Nice is centrally located on the French Riviera. The city offers alot of sights, beaches and restaurants while also providing easy access East and West to Monaco/Monte Carlo, Cannes, and St. Tropez by train or by car. Rent a small car and enjoy the coast. Parking is under the next door hotel/casino. 10-15 minutes from the airport. Beach Lounge chairs do fill up by early afternoon. We liked the hop on hop off bus though we couldn’t get the audio to work on our phones. The MuCee is great with excellent exhibitions and a sunset cruise on a sailing boat was lovely especially if you are young and happy to swim.But it was also good for an old couple. Like us. Like a lot of French towns, it is difficult to get a sandwich type lunch and also dinner in the evening as lots of restaurants closed in the evening. This city left a mark on us. We stayed at the centre and it was full of life, restaurants, shops, events, theatres, archaeological sites, museums and a beautiful waterfront that extents for miles. Not only that, the way of life draws you in. Easy going, relaxed yet gregarious. Excellent food with a plethora of restaurants, pastry shops, bakeries and a coffee joint every 100 meters or so.
