Only a 3 day visit, on way back to Bavaria from Italy & Switzerland. Nice beautiful town and very historic. Excellent hiking and numerous castle attractions to see. Very friendly atmosphere by all the locals in shops, pubs, restaurants, etc.Guest review byParkerUnited States - 10.0

The town is lovely for a walk and for viewing the painted buildings. You can also get some good beer. Prices are higher due to the proximity of the castle. The town is an ideal place to stay for visiting the castle or for hiking. The roads are well maintained, as are the cycling and hiking trails. Our visit was at the end of September, with slightly worse weather, so we did not experience any crowds.Guest review byTanja ŠtokarSlovenia - 10.0
I did not enter any of the castles or museums.
I did not enter any of the castles or museums. I had done that 50 years ago, as a student in Munich. I liked just walking around, soaking up the tourist vibe, predominantly Chinese. I even liked the rainy-sunny mix of weather, so characteristic of the Allgaue region.Guest review byDavidUnited States - 8.0

Magical place to stay for winter holidays, surrounded with lots of ski and tobogganing tracks, great communication with another villages. Food scene quite limited , same as night entertainment, I would rather to have a bit more of this to spend betters nights.Guest review byvitelio enrique - 10.0
We loved the tiny town with everything so close by.
We loved the tiny town with everything so close by. It was so clean and the people really lovely. It was fantastic catching up with family after 28 years!! We had the best breakfast at Hotel Lowen and a really great pizza and pasta night at I’ll Castro . Very good value and excellent traditional food. We used Nesselwang as a base and daily went on trips. We visited Salzburg, Innsbruck , Lake Konigsee, Lake Konstanz, Heididorf in Switzerland and so much more.Guest review byTessa Van vulpenAustralia - 10.0

This is a great area if you like a quiet village, nature, walking, hiking, biking, swimming in nearby lakes. My hotel, Alpenblick, was a perfect location for all of this. Having a car helps, but there are buses to most places in the area and train connections from nearby towns. One big hub is Steingaden from where you can get to most places. This area is a good place to slow down, relax, recuperate if you are living in a fast paced city and all that it entails. People are friendly and helpful if the hotel staff are anything to go by.Guest review bySpJGermany - 10.0

The beautiful hotel Schwarzenbach is highly recommended, we will come back soon! Very friendly staff/service, clean, lovely breakfast, very good cook, beautiful view to the lake and the rolling hills...... We had a tour inside the Castle of Neuschwanstein, went to Reutte/Austria and to Oberammergau near Zugspitze. The dark beer King Ludwig is my favorite!Guest review byChristianeGermany - 10.0
We LOVED Fűssen!
We LOVED Fűssen! The old charm feel, the energetic cafe night time vibe, the many walking/biking paths to explore the area and the quaint neighborhood charm made it a wonderful destination. I wish we stayed longer. We ate at Ludwig’s and sat in the Swan seats. The food was delicious and the inside decor was charming. We also rode our bikes to Neuschwanstein Castle which was 15-20 minutes away. There were so many bike paths throughout the area that we were able to visit many places on bikes.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0
Hohenschwangau is a very busy and very touristy place,...
Hohenschwangau is a very busy and very touristy place, especially in summer but you can still enjoy the area and visit the castles if you plan things a little. Firstly, I strongly suggest you book your tickets in advance as you must visit the castles at an appointed time. Secondly, in spite of the fact that you only have barely half an hour inside Neuschwanstein Castle and 45 minutes at Hohenschwangau Castle, the lead up times (how long it takes to get there from Hohenschwangau village, and then how far in advance you need to be at the Castle gates), you will find that you will probably take close to an entire day to visit both Castles! Allow at least 3 hours for Neuschwanstein (queue for the bus, walk to Marienbrucke for a spectacular view, be at the Castle entrance at least 15 minutes before entry, 30 minutes for the tour, another 30-40 minutes for the walk downhill), and at least 2-3hrs for Hohenschwangau Castle). While you cannot plan the weather, obviously for the best views over the lakes and the countryside will be in sunshine, but there's no reason you cannot enjoy the castles even in rain or snow, however transportation may be limited in some weather. It's a long slog up the hill to walk to Neuschwanstein (not so bad for Hohenschwangau) so recommend spending the EUR 3.50 per person to take the bus (pretty scary windy drive!) or splurge and take the horse drawn carriage! It's a nice walk down from both castles. Lots of places to stop for a snack or a meal in Hohenschwangau but of course at tourist prices!Guest review byRobinAustralia - 10.0
The village is a prime example of a "tourist village".
The village is a prime example of a "tourist village". Everything closes very early on, you see almost no locals, only hotels and restaurants. In spite of that, it still gives you a nice german feeling and experience, and the whole area is super clean, secure and just dreamy. I suggest everyone to take a bycicle or walk to get around, and try the Schlossbrau restaurant.Guest review byBettinaHungary
