We were greeted with a spacious tower room apartment with stunning views of the ocean from their cliffside property. The kitchen has been updated in the apartment and generously stocked with tea, coffee (Nescafe), and shortbreads. The local coffee shop on the property is run by the hosts and had a great menu. We were too late to sample the full menu, but the sweets were delicious. We were made to feel at home without the hosts being intrusive at all. Felt like our own little hideaway in a historic castle. Wish we had had more time and better weather to explore the property trails more. They have hundreds of head of sheep (and lambs) and Highland cows on the property, too. Picturesque fishing town definitely worth a visit. Access from the ferry port is via narrow roads with passing places. Numerous walks especially enjoyed the trail to the lighthouse. Whilst Pennygate Lodge is a lovely guest house we found Craignure a very drab functional place. We might have been better staying in Tobermory though the available accommodation there was not as good. Two storms approaching from the west starting with torrential rain did not help make our visit to Craignure very pleasant. Close to ferry of course which is a positive. A trip here needs time to enjoy the environment around and at the hotel. It is not very near a large town but a village is not far away. But that also makes it special. Make sure to get there during daylight as the roads leading to the hotel are not highways. The food was delicious and well proportioned.
