Perfect location to Hadrians Wall. Very quiet village. Our room was very small but adequate for two nights. The breakfast every morning was delicious. Dinner in the restaurant was also excellent. Loved our stay here..

It was our second time back at Battlestead’s and it lived up to our previous memories of it and we loved staying in the luxury rooms which are private and give you a fabulous view of the stars from the deck outside . It is worth the money spent to stay in such a unique boutique hotel that is sustainable on many fronts .

I had the best night's sleep in weeks at Hollybus Inn. The small single room is out the back (entry to that room is via the courtyard). It seems like this was a former storage area, as the blocked-up door can still be seen in the room. It just about fits a very comfortable single bed and a small shower/toilet. It was very warm and cosy and all I really needed for my one-night stay. There was tea/coffee and even a hairdryer. Everybody was super friendly and helpful. I'd definitely stay here again if I am back in the area. Also its very close to Kielder Water.

Wooler is the perfect base to explore so much of wonderful Northumberland. The Cheviot hills are on your doorstep, literally walking distance and it is very easy to get to the coast, Lindesfarne and many other places just 30 minutes drive away. A small market town with a high street packed with great shops, pubs, takeaways and cafes; we recommend the Terrace cafe for excellent all day breakfasts and great coffee . The town is particularly good for those who like browsing antique and bric a brac shops, there was even an Auction when we were there.

Bellingham is only a small village but it has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. There's a couple of nice gift shops, some lovely little cafes, a butchers, coop, a couple of pubs and lots of nice local walks. It's also located near to other local attractions like Kielder Forest and the observatory.

For 3 people staying we had only one key.

For 3 people staying we had only one key. An additional key would be helpful. The key safe was difficult to open and when we rang Sykes they were unhelpful. The pressure gauge on the boiler was not working we assumed that was the reason for the heating not coming on. We asked Sykes for help/advice and received no call back. The house was good the parking was adequate.

We loved the area we were in, beautiful scenery, however, the information we were provided with states the local pub/restaurant which was only one mile away was really nice for eating out. There were 2 pubs up the road but they were closed Monday and Tuesday the days of our stay at the cottage, this was disappointing.

Typical country village but with the catering facilities you tend to expect from a small town. Italian restaurant La Mensa is superb. Warning though, the hotels are not modern. Two National Trust properties to be recommended, Cragside is 5 minutes drive and Wallington is one of the NT's best kept secrets, an absolute gem. An ideal central spot for visiting all of Northumberland. A short drive from two spectacular beauty spots: the Northumbrian coast to the east and the National Park and Cheviots to the west. Two of the best castles in the country: Alnwick and Bamburgh both within 30 minutes drive, plus Scotland 40 minutes to the north and Newcastle 40 minutes to the south.

Bardon Mill village has a decent pub, the Bowes Hotel, which serves reasonable food at a fairly cheap price. The Twice Brewed Inn serves gastropub food of a very high quality, and the prices are good for the quality. A car is essential to reach these places. They are walkable, but the routes do not favour travel on foot, especially in the evening. There is a Sainsbury supermarket within travelling distance by car, SatNav is essential, but be prepared for several detours before reaching your destination!

Beautiful scenery and so quiet - perfection.

Beautiful scenery and so quiet - perfection. We ate in the hotel and had an excellent meal in the evening. The breakfast menu had a good variety to choose from - the full Scottish breakfast was fantastic and highly recommended. We were visiting relatives so didn’t have time to walk but given more time would explore the hills around. We ventured into nearby Kelso which was a lovely town with a lot to offer
