The room was excellent, presented well, spacious and clean . Food quality was very good. The staff were very attentive. They were very helpful to suggest options at breakfast or in the bar. Remembered our names, drinks and asked about our day. Special mention to Byron (bar) and Martin (breakfast) who gave excellent service. Hotel was beautifully presented, not too big and felt homely despite its grandeur. Grounds beautifully kept.

Visiting my family, and site seeing, there's a few beaches in a short drive . If you have children or grandchildren there's 3 big parks, out of premier hotel and Highfield Hotels . I think Highfield is better value for the money

It's an interesting town with old buildings and small shops up alley ways and cut-throughs. There is an excellent library and a theatre. It's only one stop up by train to Durham so visiting the cathedral there is easy. Durham is very hilly and Darlington pretty flat so it's an easy town to get around. and seemed very friendly to visitors.

The town is not too busy although a bit run down especially near the accommodation. The traffic was not bad at all times for a central area. Did not visit much of the main town area except nearby seaside resorts.

If it hadn’t been for a family wedding, I would not have chosen to visit Hartlepool. The town felt very run down, with many shops closed and little to do. It came across as a sad and struggling area. Unfortunately, we also experienced a couple of racial incidents, which made us feel uncomfortable. If you are a person of colour, this may not feel like a welcoming or friendly place to visit.

Redcar (-by-the-sea) is trying hard to get back to its glory...

Redcar (-by-the-sea) is trying hard to get back to its glory days (before the peers were demolished) with the refurbishment of the town centre. The beach is long and sandy and the sea water clear and swimmable if you avoid the rocks. The promenade is worth a walk, passed the fishing boats and the oldest lifeboat in the world museum. Not many restaurants but plenty of cafes.

This town has a good amount of coffee shops, bars and places to eat. We particularly liked No. Twenty Three and Brass Monkey Beers, both dog friendly. Lots of great walking routes available from the beach front or along the Cleveland Way.

As a Georgian, elegant market town, with the most amazing viaduct running beside the length of the High Street, Yarm has lots and lots to offer. The on-street parking is a real bonus - used to be free (time-limited), but is now very reasonably priced, and still enables visitors to be at the centre of things immediately.

Easy to travel to by car, just off main road. Easy access to market town of Guisborough, not far from Middlesbrough, country views. Went to Pinchinthorpe for breakfast, approx one mile away. Great place just for breakfast or to set off for a hill or forest walk, small exhibition. Very child snd dog friendly. The CrossKeys isn't in the village of Nunthorpe but is a short car journey away.

The town centre is nice enough, has some interesting buildings. There are 2 stunning old steel bridges and some other references to the era of cool and steel. It's a town in change to newer industries. For city tourists probably not that great, but quite some interesting references to the past. And the surroundings offer different possibilities from hiking (rosberry topping), over history (different Captain Cook references) to seaside pleasures (Redcar, Saltburn, Whitby)
