Prior to our stay I emailed the concierge a couple of times with some questions I had, and they were wonderful in answering! We upgraded our room to have a balcony, and it was great. You get good value for your money, the staff is amazing and you have your own oasis on the roof top. That said, there were people complaining about the fact that you have to book sun beds and consume at least 25€ up there.. In all honesty, this is nothing new, I’ve met the same system in Spain and it works. Also, the price is not bad when you compare it to a beach club by the sea where you pay an entrance fee, then a bed or two, and then food and drinks.. I was easily able to walk to the Acropolis itself from the hotel. The hotel itself was comfortable and well equipped, attractive room and decent size. The buffet breakfast is one of the best I have had in the European continent. The crowning glory is the breakfast/bar terrace overlooking the Acropolis, a perfect view at any time of day. This was a personal trip for me as I lived in Athens & returned to collect some belongings. Athens has a good, fairly-priced transport system (When there are no strikes/demonstrations) & is generally safe for lone female travellers. SO many historical sites to see, many of which can be seen simply by walking around the centre BUT wear comfortable, sensible shoes as the pavements aren't in good condition. Best to visit in spring or autumn as very hot in summer & beaches aren't that nice nowadays since the city has spread out towards the coast. Rafina îs a nice place to stay if you eat to be close to the airport . We spent 2 nites and hired a car . This means you can drive to Rafina ( an EASY 25 min drive ) and the next day we drove back to the airport to take the tram into Monastraki Athens to go to Plaka etc and back to the airport ( 9Euro each way ) .This way no parking issues in Athens . In terms of location, it's a bit complicated to get to the apartment, but we found it after a few minutes of walking. The owner of the apartment is nice, the bed is nice, the room is decorated in a beautiful antique vintage, the balcony is large with a beautiful view of the forest. I booked a room for one night just for myself. I stayed in room 24 and it was perfect. I recommend the downloading of WhatsApp, because this lodge is staffed remotely.
