- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 381 reviewsThe customer service and attention to detail were the outstanding. Honestly this is the best hotel I have ever been (and I am well traveled) the staff were super nice and they listened and went the extra mile to make our stay the best we ever experienced. They gave us excellent food and took their time to ask if we didn’t like anything so they could provide food to our liking but it was already great food! The onsen upstairs is gorgeous with an amazing view of the mountains and the Japanese style room is excellent. This hotel deserve more stars! We did drive from Osaka and it was 200% worth the trip. I only have good words to describe this place. Don’t hesitate and book it. We left with a warm heart. There are also nice things to do in the area like the scarecrow village and adventure park.Guest review byNoeliaUnited Kingdom
- From US$64.07 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,116 reviewsThis place was incredible and such a reasonable price. Beautiful reception area and building in general, friendly staff, and the room was compact but not too small. Great fun having a 12th floor room! Breakfast was extensive Japanese-style, including local speciality sea bream dishes, and some Western-style offerings of yoghurt, compote, eggs, bacon, bread rolls, pastry etc. Location is great- tram stop just outside, only a flat 25 minute walk to the castle ropeway or 20 minute tram to Dogo Onsen. Parking is first come first served but is right next door, and staff validate your ticket for 1000 yen/day (rather than the normal rate of 200 yen/hour). Also self-serve laundry is available for 300 yen/load, plus dryers at 100 yen/30 minutes.Guest review byMiaUnited Kingdom

We are cycling at Shimanami-Kaidou, the hotel is a good starting point. Hotel lobby inside has bike parking facilities. Receptionists are friendly and helpful. Onsen is big and clean. Staff at onsen are also very friendly too! Room is clean and big which have bridge view outside. Good restaurants near the hotel.Guest review byPatricia Pik YingHong Kong
- From US$86.22 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.0Good - What previous guests thought, 393 reviewsSakaide Grand Hotel is a large hotel near the harbour area of Sakaide. The hotel - as well as most of Sakaide itself - has a bit of Showa-romance felling. The rooms are largend the breakfast is great! There is a public bath on the third floor, but upon arriving you may be given a ticket for the nearby large public bath, where most of the towns people seem to go in the evening.Guest review byGiorgio EdoardoItaly
- From US$128.41 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 89 reviewsThis place is a little paradise, with ocean views from your room and a private beach only a couple meters away. The lovely hotel owner serves delicious home-made bread for breakfast and it’s the perfect place for stargazing. The wooden bungalows are spacious and clean. It’s the perfect place to relax at the beach in a beautiful environment.Guest review byHendrikNetherlands
- From US$37.41 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.7Good - What previous guests thought, 2,035 reviewsFor an older hotel, I really had a very pleasant stay. Rooms have everything you need, bed was comfortable. Staff gracefully allowed me to stow my luggage, and the breakfast buffet was impressive. Very close to the tram line that will take you to the train stations or Dogo Onsen. Many restaurants nearby as well.Guest review byneepsocksCanada

It would be helpful for some type of translation on what the food is and how to eat in a prepared written form in English. Service was great. Breakfast had quite a good selection. Location is definitely a great plus, only 3-5 minutes on foot from the train station.Guest review byKWSingapore

Matsuyama is a city with a lot to offer. From the stunning views from Matsuyama castle, to the history of Dogo Onsen. Perfect size city , all the mod cons without the mad cap rat race of Tokyo or Osaka. Excellent amount of restaurants and food outlets with a great food hall at the bottom of the main shopping area. Tokushima is a nice and vibrant city, that gets the most of its hype during the great Awa Odori Matsuri, held in mid August. If the temperatures are too hot for you, you can still see Awa Odori performances all year around. From Tokushima is also easy to reach Naruto, with its famous whirlpools.Guest review byGiorgio_EItaly - 10.0

A small town set in a valley surrounded by steep forested mountains and a majestic river Gateway to Iya Valley and other stunning sights. No shortage of top class food options and bars (particularly Casual Bar for great fun and karaoke and Cafe Addcolor). And the locals are some of the very nicest and generous people I have met. Can easily spend days just walking around the town and hidden laneways to shrines and spectacular scenery. I will definitely come back.Guest review byFulford-Smith - 8.0

I ejoyed my stay in the Kabuki theatre, where a well-knolweged guide gave a great commentary. The trip to Konpira San was interesting. You will enojoy the walk to the main builiding, the grand view of Kotohira, the souvenir stores, and the museum with old Japanese paintings and art works.Guest review byPoLun - 10.0
Takamatsu is a regional town on Shikoku Island in Japan.
Takamatsu is a regional town on Shikoku Island in Japan. It is quite relaxed and has everything that you may look for in big cities. Shikoku Island is one of the main 4 Islands of Japan. It is good to reach by train, bus and even by airplane. It has an old history and boasts of many traditional handicrafts, regional specialties (such as udon noodles), etc. Always worth a visit - even if it is in the rainy season.Guest review byGalinski - 10.0
The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed.
The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed. It was Ryokan Kominka Mitsuhama, and it was detailed by a true artist. You have 2 floors of space with the bedroom upstairs and a large living room downstairs. The living room is surrounded by 2 different mature and well lit Japanese gardens. One had many Koi swimming in the ponds. So lovely! It was in a quiet, low key neighborhood but just 2 blocks to the river and near a little working fisherman's bay. The boats were squid fisherman with lights strung on them because they fish at night with the lights to attract the squid. There were plenty of small local restaurants and bakeries. It was a respite from tourist crowds and off the beaten path.Guest review byPaulUnited States - 8.0
We were there for two days, which felt a bit short.
We were there for two days, which felt a bit short. The castle is a must-see, if only for the view from the top, of the city with mountains in the background. The Sunday Market is also a must, if you're there on the weekend. The small Science Museum near the castle was fun and very hands on, mainly for kids but also a nice detour for adults. We also found a Back to the Future DeLorean in the Automobile Museum, which was a nice surprise. Katsuo (bonito) is famous in Kochi, it's flame cooked a little on the outside but still raw on the inside and pretty tasty.Guest review byMichael in JapanJapan
