- Scored out of 10, guest rating 7.0Good - What previous guests thought, 775 reviewsEverything was amazing! To start, the staff were friendly, professional, and helpful. The room was lovely and cosy with a beautiful river view as promised (during snow season this was especially impressive). It was nice to walk around the facilities comfortably in the provided yukata (Japanese loungewear). The included dinner and breakfast were delicious, nutritious, and generous (both were all-you-can-eat buffet style). Booking for the private onsen and other activities was easy from the front desk. The private onsen was incredible and just a short walk from the hotel. It's set in individual huts where two of the walls can be fully opened to the outside, in case you want the outdoor onsen experience. Late night table tennis back at the hotel was fun! The public onsen (within the hotel building) also had a beautiful view. Don't worry about setting up your futon bedding - the staff will have that ready for you when you come back from dinner :) It's worth arriving early (at check-in time) and taking advantage of all that this hotel has to offer.Guest review byChristineAustralia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.0Very good - What previous guests thought, 679 reviewsThe Hotel offers a Shuttle bus to pick you up from the train station in town as well as drop you off. It is only once a day so make sure you contact them in advance to reserve your spot. They also have a lovely lounge with complimentary drinks and a beautiful view of the forest. All of the workers we spoke to were so kind and helpful. We do not speak Japanese and we had no problems with any communication or requests. Our room was beautiful and spacious and ours included a bath on the porch. The room is traditional style and we were ecstatic. I requested a vegetarian meal in advance and the Hotel made an amazing dinner and breakfast for my partner and I. Cannot say enough good things about our experience here!Guest review byAlyssaCanada
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 653 reviewsOne of my best experiences in Japan. + Big room (especially for Japan), our room was in the Annex, which seems refurbished + Great breakfast (and great breakfast), be sure to pay the small extra for the Japanese breakfast. We also had dinner... Exquisite + Fantastic garden with a nice panorama of the mountains around Nikko + You're just next to the area with all the temples, so the perfect spot for sightseeing Value was very good for the price but I suspect it was because the off seasonGuest review byStefanFrance

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 7.4Good - What previous guests thought, 477 reviewsIt is actually a hotel that offers more than what it costs. I booked the room with river view, the room is spacious and clean. It have public onsen and private onsen but you need to arrive early in order to book the private onsen. The meal is delicious and they even offer free flow alchohol drink at dinner!Guest review byMeng HooiMalaysia

Nice dinner and breakfast buffet as expected shown in many youtube vlogs. Both onsens on the top and the bottom floor are clean and tidy, just a bit weird no shampoo for the Top floor onsen. Big car park.Guest review byCaptainSnowHong Kong

The room was big and in a mint state, the Onsen was very nice but the best was the staff. We went there in during our honeymoon and they even sent us a dessert gift the first night. Very friendly and helpful. Thanks for making our stay amazing.Guest review byGonzaloSpain

The Toshugo shrine was amazing and well worth the trip.
The Toshugo shrine was amazing and well worth the trip. If you travel on to Takayama I recommend seeing the one tenth scale model of the shrine complex which is almost unbelievable in its detail and precision. Nikko is quite a sleepy town and many restaurants shut very early so I recommend making a reservation. The Nikko pass is worth purchasing, we enjoyed a day sightseeing on the local buses and trains. We had an outstanding dinner at Global Table, located on the Main Street in Nikko, well worth booking this for an unforgettable experience with Chef Ishida.Guest review byJeffreyUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We liked the room it was quite spacious.
We liked the room it was quite spacious. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel was an easy bus ride from the main station and there were many restaurants nearby. The breakfast offered a lot options both Japanese and Western. The staff were very helpful finding some bus information and lending us umbrellas and adaptors.Guest review bySusanAustralia - 6.0
Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people.
Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people. The Emperor has a summer house here as it tends to be cooler in summer. It’s little known by westerners and therefore is not catered to westerners. Parts of Nasu are very beautiful and other parts are set up for families - eg the zoo and the Dairy farm. There are some lovely restaurants and places to visit here but you really need a car to do it.Guest review byDeltaBegaAustralia - 8.0
The best thing about Nasushiobara is the hot springs.
The best thing about Nasushiobara is the hot springs. It has the Shiobara hot spring village, which has a rich spring quality and has been loved by royalty and literary masters. You can enjoy the traditional hot springs surrounded by nature in spite of the easy access from Tokyo on the Tohoku Shinkansen, which is just an hour away from Tokyo. Each hot spring in the city is different in scale and taste, but it is an adult resort where you can spend your luxurious time by soaking in the hot spring to your heart’s content.Guest review byBestUnited Kingdom - 10.0
This quiet gem is worth the trip!
This quiet gem is worth the trip! It’s a one hour bus ride on a very clean bus to arrive from the airport to a train station connection. There is so much rich history here, beautiful things to see and wonderful food to discover! Home to the oldest school and strongest shogun clan. Samurai parade in February if you can handle the cold. 10/10 come visit Ashikaga!Guest review byScalero - 10.0
Our trip to Nikko was nothing short of magical.
Our trip to Nikko was nothing short of magical. The town is surrounded by some of the most beautiful forests and breathtaking waterfalls I’ve ever seen. Every corner feels like stepping into a postcard—lush, serene, and full of natural wonder. The town itself has such charm, with its cozy streets, warm hospitality, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down and simply enjoy the moment. We stayed for three nights, which gave us time to explore, but we truly wish we had stayed longer. There’s so much more to see and experience, and the beauty of the area leaves you wanting to return.Guest review byTracyUnited States - 8.0

The Nasu Kaido is a famous and really scenic road that goes from the lowlands of Nasu town all the way up to the Nasu mountains, and it's beautiful to drive up - if you have a car. The road is a two lane highway that (in Summer) is very busy and not intended for bicycle or pedestrian use when you get to the uphill portions of the road, so be sure to use a vehicle or public transportation if you want to go further up it. The public transportation options are present - you can take the Shinkansen to NasuShiobara Station, then take the bus to the Nasu Mountain Ropeway, then take the ropeway to the near top of one of the mountain peaks and hike from there. It's a good venture, though if you try it on the weekend, be sure to check when the last buses operate, or else you might have to take a taxi.Guest review byLeeUnited States - 10.0

Ashikaga was a great place to visit, as everything was really interesting and nothing felt trivial. It had just the right amount of stuff. The famous flower gardens of course, but also the Bannoji temple, first school, and the surrounding hills/mountains (if you like hiking). It is really easy to get around the area as well.Guest review byMitchell
