We recently had the pleasure of staying at Villa Fregn, and we can confidently say it was one of the best hotel experiences we've ever had. From the moment we arrived, everything felt perfectly curated and thoughtfully designed for our comfort. The owners, Ellen and Bart, were exceptional hosts. Their warmth and genuine smiles made us feel right at home. They were always eager to recommend activities, making our stay feel personalised in every way. Breakfast and dinner were culinary delights, featuring delicious meals prepared with local ingredients that not only satisfied our palates but also supported local farmers and producers. The focus on ecological practices without sacrificing comfort truly set Villa Fregn apart. Also, we had the best sleep we've ever had in a hotel—so comfortable that we didn’t want to leave! We wholeheartedly recommend this boutique hotel to anyone looking for a unique getaway. We can't wait to return with our friends and family. The exterior reflects the interior. Absolutely gorgeous facility restored to top notch quality. Bed, bathroom and pentry was perfect. Reading chairs by the window invited to a moment of work and reading a book. Personal cooked breakfast added to the experience. I could write a lot more positive details. Earlier during this trip I stayed a 5 star Dr Holms in Geilo, I clearly prefer this place.

Tina was the best host! She went out of her way to organise a personalised excursion and to make sure I had the best experience. I also love the dining room and food. The dining room was comfortable and roomy and the food was delicious.

A place we’ll continue to visit after getting married in the Domkirkeodden (cathedral ruins) 10 years ago. It’s peaceful but with plenty to see and do and only 1hr 45 from Oslo. Lake mjøsa is stunning and if you follow the lake trail you’ll find lots to photograph, enjoy the scenery and culture as well (don’t miss the famous Skiblandener which runs during the summer months) There is beaches safe for swimming and lots of great places to eat out. Getting about by foot is easy although some stepper sections but the bus is well connected and easy to use.

It is a very small place with limited facilities but we did find an Indian restaurant serving excellent food. It is about a fifteen minute walk to the beach area which has lots of options, particularly for families

Nice Norwegian town.

Nice Norwegian town. The fortress offers a beautiful view over the city and the surroundings. Nature around Kongsvinger is top Kongsvinger Golf Klubb is one of the best in the country . A 7K walking path goes around the course and in winter it turns into a very interesting Cross Country Ski track

Wow! Trysil truly impressed us.

Wow! Trysil truly impressed us. We usually switch destinations every year for our annual ski holiday, but we’re definitely coming back to Trysil next time. Aside from the beautiful scenery, we loved the ski lifts and the conditions, which are perfect for all levels of skiing, especially for families. What a fantastic experience!

The absolute best place to cross country ski - you can never...

The absolute best place to cross country ski - you can never get tired of it or explore all the trails. Norway is currently a very good value destination for British travellers as the exchange rate is favourable and accommodation is generally not over priced - unlike some parts of the UK!! Sjusjoen is highly accessible via Oslo/Lillehammer, with or without a car.

Trysil is a lovely little resort.

Trysil is a lovely little resort. It would be perfect for skiers who are learning or on their second trip maybe. It is a fairly quiet resort, which suited us fine. Great for ski in/out. We are in our mid 50s, and seasoned skiers, so a few days was plenty to cover everywhere. Plenty of places to eat, for young families too. Taste Bar/Restaurant/Cafe was our favourite. A small resort, so everywhere is close by. Great transportation if you need that too. The town is a 25 min walk away, with a nice little shopping centre if needed.

Over 80+ km of slopes offer a variety for all levels for both skiers and snowboarders at a very low altitude with excellent snow depth in December. The slopes are well-maintained and illuminated. The lift infra is aging and does not match the peak demand well. Main lifts like T1-T2 are congested and also malfunctioning. Food choices exist, but only one option at higher altitudes exists. There are few ski shops and only one rental shop, which has a wide variety of helpful stuff. Overall, there is a high level of safety and an additional flavor with night skiing options.
