Such high quality of everything at such a remote location. The staff was great, doing an excellent job of running the place. The food was so delicious: the breakfast, the dinner, and also the freshly baked cookies and cakes in the community building. A special treat was watching movies about the history of this remarkable place in the evening, in the comfortable sofas of the bar area. The rooms are clean and simple. I initially worried a bit staying there would become boring, since there is no internet, and it is not possible to leave the hotel on your own (because of the possibility of polar bears). I was wrong: Multiple guided tours could be booked on the spot, visiting different areas of the settlement (or, in summer, even the surroundings, but I was there in October, with snow already covering the landscape). I highly recommend this place, run so professionally by the staff.

Clean and friendly hostel with good kitchen, showers, laundry machine. Comfy beds, good pillows, amazing staff. We recommend a longer stay in Barentsburg to taste some of its vibe of humble, genuine, peaceful, friendly creativity in an amazing setting. We stayed one week, could easily have stayed longer. We will be back! Thank you!

Wonderful host. Gave me all information about the facility and also tours on arrival. The property is very clean with fully equipped kitchen. Bathrooms are very clean and shared between two rooms but not once I had to wait. Every room has a personal refrigerator for storing food so you get rid of labeling. etc. Property is less than a Kilometer from center with beautiful walk and quiet surroundings. I loved the location 10/10. Host was kind to allow a late checkout given the bus time for the airport without any fuss or request. peak hospitality

Longyearbyen for me is characterised by hospitality and warmth which is exactly what you need in the harsh beauty of the arctic circle. Arriving in November meant we said goodbye to any daylight but the magic of the northern lights more than made up for this and we were fortunate to see them.

Barentsburg is a charming little town and somewhat off the tourist track: but it is worth spending at least two to three days because it has some very unique features. Hostel Pomor has excellent value for money: the bar/restaurant in Hotel barentsburg is excellent and cosy: the staff is very friendly and helpful

The food on offer in restaurants is incredible.

The food on offer in restaurants is incredible. Try something new or stick to an old favourite like fish and chips. Everything is easy to get to all walking distance So many activities to try, Coal Mine 3, ATV tour outside the settlement of town, Northern most brewery visit and tasting. Experience the place for what it is, awesome, incredible and unique place on the planet. Try as much food as you can.

Longyearbyen is unique.

Longyearbyen is unique. It is a small settlement up in the Arctic in a stark but beautiful landscape. It is very different to other places I have visited. We stayed for 4 nights and included a couple of trips on 2 of the 3 full days we spent there. It was a bonus for us that on the third day, 14th August 2025, it happened to be the 100 year anniversary of Norway's sovereignty over Svalbard. The town is very quiet and there are not many bars and restaurants but we were very happy to find the Karlsberger pub and it's sister restaurant opposite. These are 2 establishments which are popular with the local residents and are very lively and friendly with great food and drinks. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is very easy to walk around Longyearbyen with museums and old mines to visit or you can walk down to the shore and see what wildlife turns up.
