Very friendly staff (thanks for the upgrade, we'll never forget it), comfortable room with everything one might need, comfy beds so we slept like babies. a shopping centre right across from us so we could get groceries before taking a trip, which brings me to the next point. This is a new hotel just opened in October 2023 and it is finished to a high standard by the enterprising owners who are from the village. All the staff were great, nothing was too much trouble. We ate evening meal and breakfast at the hotel the food was very good and plentiful.

The hotel is located at an altitude of about 2,000 metres directly on the cliff edge with a view over the valley and the mountains. You have a great view of the sunset. Due to the altitude, the temperatures during the day are very bearable. Our booked chalet had a living room, a bathroom, a bedroom and a small hallway where the small fridge and coffee/tea utensils were located. The pool was heated! Breakfast certainly takes some getting used to for Europeans. But everyone will surely find something from the rich offer, even if it is not what they are used to. The evening meal is either completely buffet style if there are enough guests, otherwise there is a small starter and dessert buffet and you choose a main course from 5-6 alternatives. Both options were ok for us, especially since there were European as well as Arabic/Indian variations. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

    The quiteness of the place was what we loved in Sohar.

    The quiteness of the place was what we loved in Sohar. Away from the noise and busy life of Dubai. Availability of food from cheap street food to expensive restaurants was another major advantage and of course various cuisines. Omani Shuwa was one of the best dishes. Sea food cooked by small outlets was amazing. Horse riding on the beach was fun My suggestion to non-arab expats: this is not your country, so please try other country cuisines and explore different tastes. Please drive and behave responsibly in public and maintain the decorum of that place, Dress well, avoid throwing garbage here and there. Be civilized as much as possible.

    Well worth the drive. Not for the faint hearted in places! 4WD required. Police checkpoint at base to check vehicles are roadworthy. It’s a very steep climb & decent. . Off road drives are challenging but the scenery is stunning. Bring snacks/water. Walking shoes. The Historical Al Sukar village is amazing. Challenging drive but worth it. A 500m walk down the trail to the lodges & cafe. And a tough climb back up same so bring water!

    Breakfast was good overall, but there are a few areas that could be improved. There was only one person making omelettes, which caused delays during busy times. Additionally, the croissants and pastries were not served warm, which is something I would expect at a 4-star hotel. Furthermore, we were disappointed to find out that the swimming pool was under maintenance for a month, and we were not informed prior to confirming our booking. This was a surprise and affected our stay, as we had planned to use the pool during our visit.

    It was close of one of the biggest shopping mall just 100...

    It was close of one of the biggest shopping mall just 100 meters away .. all you need available in that mall .. There is Barka market .. mostly a groups of shop 10 kilometers a lond the road extend to the cost. Taxi stand close to the hotel It will be good to have a car to do some trips around 45 minutes and 1.5 hors trips to wakan village or wadi bani Aouf .. 30 minutes to the airport

    The area was spectacularly beautiful.

    The area was spectacularly beautiful. There are a number of well marked hikes as well as more extensive walks, via ferrata, abseiling and cave exploration that require guides. Guides are amazing professionals from the area. We learned so much about the area and eager to return to learn more.

You are welcomed and made to feel easy and welcome by the host and his family. They show genuine kindness and hospitality. Safe environment, authentic and clean.     Barcelo Hotel, previously the Millenium Hotel, is really one of the hotels that I enjoyed staying at. It is relaxing, far from the city noise. I enjoy the food, the stroll along the beach, the accommodating staffs, and the comfy rooms. I will keep coming back here.
