We enjoyed our stay in Albuferia, the weather was gorgeous even in October its was sunny and a steady 25 degrees. Portuguese were very friendly and welcoming everywhere we went. Lots of lovely restaurants both in the square and surrounding streets, never had a bad meal anywhere. Special mention to Riccardos Italian restaurant, fabulous meals made to order and very reasonably priced, well worth a visit. Downside is just how steep the old town and surrounding area was, it would have been a challenge for the older members of our party anyway but in the heat was impossible, lucky fantastic and very reasonably priced taxi service readily available in all areas.Guest review byLornaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We loved Faro.
We loved Faro. Great place to explore, lovely restaurants, Dois Irmaos was particularly goo for seafood and typical Portuguese dishes. We went on a boat trip with Formosamar which was brilliant. We went to a deserted island then to Culatra island where you could swim or eat and drink at a place overlooking the ocean. You can also go bird and dolphin watching. It's very easy to walk around Faro, buses and trains are easily accessible to explore the area. Tavira is very pretty. The architecture of the older buildings is beautiful and every effort is made to keep the period properties as they should be. Aljezur is a great location to visit if you like nature, surfing, good food, a slower pace of life. I would recommend staying in Aljezur, getting a car to drive around to different beaches and villages where you can find good restaurants. Amazing place lots of restaurants and bars but it is all spaced out if you have good legs this is no problem. Of course you can hire a car and drive out at night but if you want to drink you need to walk as we didn't see 1 taxi on our 9 night stay. Find accommodation near to Mareta beach as that's about central. Very young area lots of fit surfing people day and night which is great. There are 3 beaches within walking distance Tonel is the one for surfing if you can do!! Mareta beach is the nicest of the 3. There are many more you can drive to. The fort is interesting. We have been coming to Alvor since 2016 and stayed over 10 times; sometimes twice a year July and September. Obviously the fantastic beach and great swimming in Atlantic ocean is the main attraction, with great weather. Then it is the fantastic restaurants. Just about any place that grills fish and meat is very good and not expensive and offer fantastic value for money. The Indian restaurants are also excellent.
