There is a grocery store right across the street and several locations to eat all within walking distance. There was also ample street parking for our rental car. The washing machine was convenient to launder our clothes given the length of our stay. Even though there is no dryer, there are clothes lines setup on the balconies. We were able to hang clothes in the morning and they would be dry by the evening and vice-versa. The apartment is secure as a key is required to enter the building. The apartment was plenty spacious and we didn't feel like we were crowded at all. I plan to visit again in 2-3 years and would stay in this apartment again. We did the 2 day excursion of Ponta Delgada ( since we chose not to rent a car) ….it was phenomenal. The tour guide Joao was very knowledgeable and brought us to the most amazing spots on the island. I enjoyed Riberia Grande.
I enjoyed Riberia Grande. It is a great place to situate yourself if you are planning to visit different areas of the island. The public swimming pools and ocean access was fantastic. I enjoyed going to the courtyard area in my area nightly to eat and enjoy a glass of wine. Took a little getting used to the serving staff here as they did not seem interested in their customers. Upon searching Google, I found out this may be because they are paid a decent living wage and therefore not reliant on tips. It is a beautiful and historic building with so much character. It has calm and peaceful seating areas throughout where you can sit in comfort. They have the best breakfast and we relied on the banana for a snack as we were out and about during the day. This location is perfect for exploring the island as it is centrally located. Casas do termo are about 2 km from Lagoa, and we didn't explore this small town well enough. The big Continente supermarket was easy to find (on the road from the motorway). The roads on São Miguel are on the whole very good and the traffic is light. There is a lot of agricultural traffic, however. Using this location as a base, we could easily explore the whole island by car and there are many things worth experiencing (views, villages, Ponta Delgada itself). this hotel was far from the airport or anything else for that matter, if you had to walk so a car is a necessity, and although the hotel had amenities like restaurant (only open for breakfast with the same breakfast every day) and vending machines (which if you could find a working one was empty( best piece of advise is find a grocery store, the island living is the best but it does take some getting used to if your from North America.Guest review byDanCanada - 6.0

There is not much going on here. We stayed here as it's close to Pico Da Vara. We should have stayed at Furnas though as we ended up driving down there 3 times :-) That being said, the island is small and it's all doable.Guest review byBracherBelgium - 10.0

Ribeira quente is an authentic fishing village with a great restaurant and bar which also serves good food . It has a spar supermarket but also a shop selling local fruit and vegetables amongst other things. It’s easy to find and an easy place to get to the town of Furnas with all the activities there. Although a bit of a drive to sete cicadas there is a fast road and well worth having a day there. Lovely place to explore , the botanical garden Borges is free and really nice to see . Lovely bars and restaurants scattered all over . Plenty to see and do here for a few days . We got a taxi to the lava caves in town ( grutas do carvão ) but we walked back as it’s only a 15/20 min walk . The 1 hour Cave tour is worth doing and cost €10 .Guest review byPaulPortugal - 10.0
The best place to stay on Sao Miguel.
The best place to stay on Sao Miguel. You can easily walk to Lake Furnas and Parque Grená which has lots of waterfalls. There are thermal springs you can visit at both Terra Nostra and Poça da Dona Beija (which was great at night time). Espinha cocktail bar was lovely as was Terra Nostra Restaurant. You could spend a whole day walking around the area where there are parks with geothermal activity and a beautiful church in the centre. We ate in a lot and there are lots of lovely bakeries in the town and supermarkets.Guest review byAnonymous
