We stayed one night in one of the little garden houses. Loved it! It was clean and spacious. We had dinner in the hotel as well. There was Thai food and some Swedish dishes. Verry tasty. Lovely people there. Would recommend.

This historically themed hotel is both nicely decorated, according to the former function of the building as a prison and clean - sustainable. The staff is friendly and really keen on informing their guests of their hotel's past. The breakfast was tasty and with a large variety of fresh food. The boutique they maintain in the reception hall is offering interesting niche products at a good price. Another unique aspect of this hotel was the small exhibition room that shows how a prisoner's cell looked like in the past. The location is also one of the advantages that this hotel offers, because it is close to all the points of interest for culture, shopping and food.

This was such an unexpectedly pleasant stay! Location is good, it's a walkable and convenient distance from Kalmar C station and Kalmar Castle. The common spaces feel cosy and the rooms are really decently-sized and comfortable. It is cool that they refurbished this hotel from an old warehouse. There were also free coffee and tea (of a good variety!) for guests. We had both breakfast and dinner included in our package, which is a bit unusual for a hotel, but the dinner served was delicious, and I don't think we would have a more enjoyable meal outside anyway. Staff were really friendly too. Fantastic accommodation, it's such a pity we only stayed one night!

    The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The room was nice and fresh, with very comfy beds, two 90 cm wide. The toilet/shower was fresh and clean. The breakfast was a very nice buffet with the usual stuff to choose from. Free parking, but limited number of spaces. There is a shared kitchen in the basement where you can store cold stuff and even cook. Coffe, sodas, snacks and some sandwiches on sale in the reception.

    The lake was really nice to swim. We had a great time with the paddle boat. The host was really friendly and helpfull. We had a lot of room and a bbq besodemieterd the house.     The Breakfast was outstanding - huge variety of the highest quality breakfast food all beautifully presented. I have stayes in some very exclusive hotels in the past (for work I should say) but this surpassed anything I have seen. My wife and I would really looked forward to breakfasts - a real highlight.

    Wonderful castle and walks around and through the city were...

    Wonderful castle and walks around and through the city were most enjoyable. The area is flat so no problems with steep inclines. Interesting history with many photo opportunities. Even took advantage of a local folk singing concert. We came away most refreshed and look forward to visiting again.

    A town with less population.

    A town with less population. I recommend to stay near lake or within the forest, provided you have your own vehicle to commute. Most of the shops and restaurants are located in the center of the town.

    The location is amazing, and the pizza in the restaurant is great. We did not expect to find such good pizza in such a tiny place. :) It's dog-friendly, which is a great plus! The house we booked was well-equipped and in very good condition overall. However, I wish the management had taken better care to check if the previous owners had cleaned properly after leaving. It wasn't disgustingly dirty, but the previous occupants definitely did not follow the cleaning instructions. There were also too few cleaning supplies, and I wish the rugs were labeled—toilet rugs, for example, should be labeled so people don't use them to clean other parts. ;-)

    The house is in Kristvallabrunn, near but not in Nybro. From Kristvallabrunn, it is a short drive to Kalmar. Nybro apparently has a James Bond museum but we didn't find that out until after our stay.

    It was well worth the trip from Helsingborg. We liked the old town. The castle & surrounding gardens were spectacular. We would have done the nature walk, but the weather was too cold & wet (23rd & 24th May, 2025.

    Lonely Planet describes Oskarshamn as (paraphrasing) "...

    Lonely Planet describes Oskarshamn as (paraphrasing) "pleasant enough, but not interesting". The main reason to come here us to take a ferry, after all. I got to spend more time here than planned thanks to a last-minute ferry cancellation; while Oskarshamn is not a bad place to be stuck in for a night, it's definitely not something to put on your bucket list. Notes: - Restaurant Cecil is decent - Adels Hotel is very close to the Gotland Ferry terminal and quite cheap; the fact there is very little personnel on-site makes for an odd experience, though. - Oskarshamn is pretty small and walkable, but somewhat hilly.

    The castle was a great tour—even in the pouring rain. We drove to Oland and swam in the Baltic Sea. It was a nice hike—easy 4-5 miles. Walking around the walled area of Kalmar was nice as well. We had dinner at Ernesto’s which was delicious.
