We love every bit of it: nice building, modern amenities, super friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable room with mountain views, hot shower. Despite no central heating, the electric mattress was very warm. Once it's heated, the warmness lasted for the whole night even we turned it off just before sleep. The toilet seat is heated, a great feature in winter time. Another pleasant surprise is that the toilet bowl is illuminated so no need to turn on the light if we need to go to toilet in the middle of the night, how considerate!

We loved everything. If I could give it 100 stars I would. Imagine waking up to a beautiful sunrise, and heading out to dig into an amazing spread of food made from their own farm, and once you're full to head aside and have tea with the owner. It's perfect.

We booked the family room with 4 separated double beds, the room is more spacious than expected and we can smell the wood once arrived. The weather was very bad with heavy rain everyday during our trip, so we can only stay at the place most of the time. We enjoy the tranquil atmosphere very much, giving ourselves an unexpected relaxation and deep rest during the days. The breakfast was great which I remember the vegetables are very delicious :p The cats there are so cuteeeee!! Great location with 3 mins walk to enjoy the sunrises (though we didn’t have the chance to enjoy the sunrise due to the bad weather). It’s next to hotel indigo so it’s easy to find and there is a 7-11 right at the main road.

This was by far the best stay we had in Taiwan. The view is magnificent and the surrounding tea farms and mountains are nice to explore. The terrace and the common spaces are great to slow down and enjoy the view. What makes this stay truly special is the kindness of the staff. They help with everything, driving us to dinner places and picking us up from the bus stop. You can really see that they care about the place and keep everything beautiful. You can also go to Alishan as a day trip so no need to stay within the national park.

The hotel is located a bit further from the ChiaYi CBD, but it offers a peaceful and quiet setting. It features an underground parking lot with EV charging stations. The lobby is elegant and inviting, setting a welcoming tone. The rooms have high ceilings, and the balcony offers scenic mountain views. Everything appears to be newly built or meticulously maintained. The breakfast selection is abundant and tasty. The value for the price is excellent, offering much more than expected. Overall, my family had a wonderful stay.

If you're a European traveler, please heed my warning and avoid the hotel and the entire Alishan park. The park is just a huge tourist hotspot for elderly. The hotel is overpriced, the entry to the park is pricy and most of the park is artificial. The old trees are cool, sure. You will have a much better experience visiting the nearby mountains by yourself.

The place is just where you go when you cannot find a place in Alishan. There are some nice trails in bamboo forests etc but nothing so special. Also, the village literally shuts down after 7pm, we were left two nights without dinner (luckily 7-11 is always available, but watch out, only until 10pm here).

Shizhuo village is a great place to stay as it is on the main road between Chiayi and Alishan recreation area + it offers a beautiful trails. I had a chance to experience sunset and sunrise thanks to staying for one night and I visited all of the trails between Shizhuo and Fenqihu = Mist Trail, Sunset Trail, Sakura Trail (no cherries in the time of my visit unfortunately), Tea Trail, and Cloud Trail. I recommend reading more on a website Taiwanese Obsessed (https://www.taiwanobsessed.com/shizhuo/). I pushed myself on the second day of my stay and did sunrise, few of the trails, hike to the Dadongshan trail (beautiful forest, view on Mt. Jade and also monkeys!!!), walk to Fenqihu for lunch and Logging trail with giant tree and Cedar trail, spot the local scenis train while it was driving through the city, hitchhiked back to Shizuo as it was easier than waiting for bus and locals are very friendly to help and then finished my day and myself with the rest of the trails above Shizuo. For normal people I recommend maybe 2 nights stay for all of this as I had to be quick to make it all happen before going back to Chiayi. Bus service was very good on the main road, Fenqihu is very secluded and the bus comes only 2-3 times per day (but there is a train at 11:30 up to Shiztulu, village closer to Alishan recreation area - be careful, the train does not go all the way up to the area at this time!)

The best place to stay in if you’re visiting Alishan Recreational Park. The train station, electric bus pickup point, eateries, 7-11 are all within walking distances. I prefer taking the electric bus then the train. The ticket booth is just in front of the tourist service center. The bus will set off as soon as they have gotten a few passengers on board. For us the bus set off immediately almost every time. The 转角@小栈at the food mall was our favorite place for simple delicious meals. The rice cookies and mochi from日出商店 was delicious.

Ok sorry to say but very dissapointing. One day is enough. Accommodation in whole area is small and no value. Town is old and dated. Restaurants old and dated and food just average. Railway station is great. The effort to get there is long and then very dissapointing. Needs a facelift. Only good for a day trip.

A recommendation for Fenqihu area is to look into visiting Da En Na Ya tribal area (Google it). This is a mountain tribe accessible by car on specialty tour visits, or by train from Fenqihu and another 4km of hike. But the tribal area is worth a visit as the tribe runs accommodation, restaurants, a bakery and is self-sufficient. It carries a high level of dignity and pride in interacting with the outside world, and is truly the highlight of my trip to Taiwan.
