- From US$2,180.30 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 10Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 34 reviewsSimply great. Great location in many senses - the reserve itself (only 1 hour from the airport PLZ), the location of the manor in the reserve and of course the reserve as a biodiverse paradise. Food - great - suprisingly great we have to say. The Manor is spacious, our room was much larger than expected. It had a terrace facing the open reserve where you could see animals from a distance after a shower or having a coffee. The buildings have a modern country style touch, are very welcoming, open and invite to relax. There is "the usual" 5-star stuff to do, if you are not on a game drive (pool, spa, gym, etc). Which is great if you have a partner or you are in a group with people that are not into game drives as much - they will have a proper 5-star hotel experience and be able to relax anyway. - This is a main difference to camps with tents and less luxurious equipment. Staff is very friendly - nice concept of the ranger having breakfast with you afterwards so you can reflect upon what you have seen. Children - there is another camp in the reserve that is especially family friendly - I forgot the name - ask the reserve, they will tell you.Guest review byClemensUnited Arab Emirates
- From US$799.60 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 97 reviewsAmakhala consists of several old farms which decided to give up farming and start as a game lodge (years back). So nature reconquered the plantations and ecologists supervise the balance of animals. Leeuwenbosch is one of these old farms. We did two game drives (afternoon and early morning) which are included in the room tariff. Ranger Eubut is phenomenal, he shares many information about animal and plants and their habitat. We saw Cheetas, Elephants, Black Rhinos, Hippos and all kinds of Antilopes, Birds and small animals. Amazing! Food (which is all inclusive) was excellent and served by extremely friendly personnel. Extra point: there is a pub where you can sit with other guests before / after evening dinner and have a drink and chat. Bottom line: Very pleasant stay, very nice game experience. Recommendation!Guest review byGerdKrügerGermany
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 161 reviewsWhere to start… This safari was everything you want. Our guides were amazing (big shoutout to Johan and Liam) they were so happy, enthustiastic and very knowledgeable. They really care about making it a special event for you and they care deeply about the animals and protecting their enviroment. The accomondation are big tents with a big bed, toilet, shower and our own jacuzzii! The jaccuzzi is located beneath an open sky and i have never seen more stars then i did here. Truly amazing. Food was great, the safari area great, we spotted the big five but they were so much more animals to see. I really loved all the warthogs for example. If you want a real rural (but still luxorious) safari experience, Amakhala 1920s safari is what you should book.Guest review byFransSweden
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 317 reviewsWe had a wonderful experience in Woodbury Lodge. We loved our guide Roxy who is extremely knowledgeable and an outstanding ranger. She was able to show us lions, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, elephants, all sorts of antilope, monkeys and warthogs. The only animal we didn’t see was a cheetah as they are very rare to spot but Roxy made a huge effort to find it. She had great knowledge on birds and the reserve itself. Her driving skills are excellent! The accommodation itself is wonderful and very clean. Each room has their own terrace overlooking the waterhole where the animals come to drink. Absolutely magical to watch!Guest review byHeineIreland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.9Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 115 reviewsUnreal experience! HillsNek will make you feel in the heart of nature while offering you the best service and luxurious feeling. Having only 4 lodges, the whole experience felt very personal and private while at the same time enjoying the feeling of community with the other guests during game drives and meals. Our ranger Tim did his best to show us everything we wanted to see and more while making us feel safe and sharing great stories. Renzo and the staff made sure to be ahead of every of our needs. We even had the elephants coming to drink in the pool twice during our stay - it's not just great marketing ;)Guest review byThibaultNetherlands
- From US$1,714.22 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 129 reviewsStunning place, absolute luxury for tents in the Bush, in the middle of nowhere. Such a treat to live almost alongside the animals (from a safe distance!) and to observe in natural surroundings. Saw so many beautiful creatures and I loved that the lodge was respectful and conscious of the environment in terms of the minimal impact construction of the accommodation (beautifully equipped luxury tents) and yet struck a really lovely balance with comfort and beautiful design. A very special experience that we will treasure forever.Guest review byKerriIreland
- From US$1,281.82 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 60 reviewsThe whole experience exceeded our expectations. The food is superb and the rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. They went through the trouble of making a separate meal for my partner to accommodate his food allergies. They also went to the trouble of setting up a screen and provided us with snacks to watch the rugby. We also got to see 4 of the Big 5 in one evening!Guest review bySunéSouth Africa

The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful.
The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. the room was large and when you came back after the second safari they had turned the lights on. folded down the beds and put the heating on. That is a really great touch from the staff. The Park Rangers were very good. We had Jessie and he was very informative and had a great sense of humour. He really did his best to find the animals we all wanted to see and made it a special experience.Guest review byHuwUnited Kingdom - 10

We did an afternoon Giraffe walk through Bellevue Lodge and it was amazing - we were taken on a safari vehicle onto a game reserve and from there had to find the grazing giraffe. Once we spotted them, we drove close by and then got out of the vehicle to walk close (but not too close) to the giraffe to watch them eat their dinner. It was a lovely experience, and our guide Stephen was knowledgeable and friendly, answering all our questions. We stayed at the Bellevue Lodge for 1 night, it was a lovely small property with friendly staff.Guest review bySusanSwitzerland - 10

Old style of buildings but in the based in the nature. Super bedroom and in the morning all kind of animals where in front of your room. Also the Akmala Game reserve tour is highly recommendable because we saw so many wild animals (lions, rhino's, cheetahs, secretary bird,...) The dinner in the lodge was superb.Guest review byBENNYSlovenia - 10

This was a new listing , and we were the first guests, LUCKY US!! The facilities offered are too many to mention. An updated kitchen with everything that opens and closes and more. Filter water on tap, a wine fridge, every spice that you can imagine. If you have forgotten anything at home, no stress they have it. A beautiful, clean, large family home. The beds are comfortable, shower pressure is great, wifi, dstv and views from every bedroom. Our host Larraine was wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. This gem is a true home from homeGuest review byAnonymous - 10

Amakhala Game Reserve is a haven for wild animals and a brilliant place for a safari. Many of the animals used to roam the land 100 years ago before the land was used for farming. In the early 2000's the land was returned to its natural habitat and the animals reintroduced, with the aim of conservation and breeding of endangered species. As it is in a malaria-free area, it is the perfect location for a safari for people who get bitten by mozzies! There were only a few jeeps out on drives at any time, so you rarely come across other people. There are several lodges in the reserve to choose as your base (we stayed at Safari Lodge, which was brilliant).Guest review byGaryUnited Kingdom - 10

The whole experience was amazing. Difficult to put into words. Spectacular views from the lodge, very knowledgeable and professional rangers, great food, extremely friendly atmosphere, very thoughtful touches (like running a bubble bath on return from game drive), wonderful decor.Guest review byMuttlichUnited Kingdom
