AustraliaWe spent 2 nights in Motswari Private Game Reserve and it was an unforgettable experience! Wonderful food, service, exclusivity and personal attention. Our ranger, Marius was exceptional and made every game drive and our walking safari unforgettable. His trackers, Elvis and Misha was just as amazing with their knowledge of the animals and the bush. We saw 3 of the 5 "big five" in just 1.5 days of being there, thanks to these guys. The food and service at the lodge was beyond our expectations in every way. I was a vegetarian and they catered for me with exceptional skill and charm. The food was really outstanding, thank you Glenda and team! Our other hosts, Desmond and MJ looked after every detail and made our stay wonderful. Our room was large, luxurious and comfortable. We each had a great massage too (thank you Lerato), in a space where you can watch giraffes walk by... The setting of this private lodge is amazing, you overlook a river with giraffes and elephants walking by. We even had a hyena come close to us while sitting around the camp fire - so special. This was a once in a life time experience and we hope to be back again soon!

United KingdomWhat a fantastic place to stay...Close to Kruger but also within their own game reserve which also has lots of animals...Zebra and giraffe walking around...A bush walk is highly recommended...Lynn and Brian cannot do enough for you. All our trips were organised for us and they were friendly, helpful and great fun....Easy to get to from Hoedsprit airport and a very comfortable, interesting place to stay. Loved the big comfy beds and outside shower. Also the food was excellent thanks to Tinyiko the chef. Very varied and delicious. Highly recommended place to stay.

United StatesWe loved the exciting and comfortable game drives, the sundowners in the bush, the knowledgeable, friendly staff - we loved eating with the staff and other travelers at dinner - all communal areas were spotless and comfortable - staff was always on hand to ask questions or get a drink. The wildlife guides, Connie and Taybon, were just phenomenal, and the food was all delicious and rooms/showers were very comfortable! Location, animals (we saw SO MANY), everything outstanding.

We had an absolutely magical stay and couldn't have asked for anything more. The lodge is incredible and exactly as pictured. The terrace and pool with the sky deck were so relaxing to sit at during the day - once I even came up for air from a swim and there were 5x giraffes right there - coming to drink at the watering hole right out front. The tents are very nice and well furnished also, we found them spacious and relaxing. The food was also really nice, some really nice meals and we loved eating out under the stars around the fire with our fellow guests. The Balule reserve itself is awesome - it's not as well known or established as some of the other private reserves which is actually great as it's less crowded, but still full of wildlife (we saw lions, leapords, white and black rhinos, hippos, elephants, giraffes, zebra, warthogs, hyena - you get the picture) and beautiful terrain (hills, plains, rivers, watering holes etc.). What really should be mentioned and which is tough to describe though is how incredible the staff is. As it's a smaller lodge (only 5 tents), the staff is really like a family, and each and every one of them we formed a bond with. They were so gracious as hosts and helped us at every point. The owner James is also full of stories and super friendly. Special shout out though of course to Themba (our safari guide) and Jimmy (our tracker) for the amazing game drives every morning and night. We saw and learned so much - but most of all we laughed a TON. Everyone working at the lodge are such great people and we would love to come back one day.Guest review bySeanGermany

Every single detail was truly perfect, the highlights were of course the amazing safari, the exceptional staff and superbly delicious food. Ryan our game driver was the best - he went out of his way at every moment to make sure we had the most enjoyable experience and it wouldn't have been the same without him. He had great finds of animals and was a wealth of information - we saw the big 5 in our first day! He is funny with a great personality that made the experience even better than I could imagine. Chef Alex - The food was exceptional, we couldn't miss a meal and always looked forward to what he created. The best food I have ever had at an hotel or all-inclusive experience. He was able to customize any meals for my partner who is vegetarian with ease. Songs (our butler) - Really took care of us and made each dinning experience even better, with his kindness and great personality. His wine recommendations were always spot on. Also to mention the heated pool was a major bonus - with so much time spent going on game drives I am sad to say we only got to use it once. The drivers were very professional and knowledgeable about the different animals. Only after 2 days we already seen the big five except the leopard . The river lodge we stayed in , was very peaceful and the staff was accommodating , greeted us on return with hot towels and showed utmost interest in making this stay a really special one ! Sabi game reserve is quite big with many private lodges...
Sabi game reserve is quite big with many private lodges inside. It is open to Kruger park, so animals are free to roam anywhere. The difference is that the ranger and tracker can actually follow an animal wherever they go (without entering Kruger). It is expensive , but if you can afford it, the experience is quite different. The ranger and tracker that took us for a drive from Umkumbe were great. The ranger spotted a chameleon on the tree, in the dark, under the light beam from the trackers torch, at a distance of about 25m. We have no clue how! Great experience to be able to go offroad in the vehicle and get really close to the animals. A leopard had hidden their kill in the tree, which we went back to after dark, when the leopard had come back. Unfortunately that was the only cat we saw that night. Saw a hippo and a hyena too, but that's just luck when you are out in the bush. A family on the previous night had seen the leopard kill the buck as well. The private Sabi game drive is expensive, and depending on how lucky you get, you might think it is either worth it/or a waste of money.Guest review bySagarAustralia - 10.0

It was a brilliant experience, in particular the game drives and being out in the wild. The resort is excellent! Tips: No loo on a 3-hour game drive so don’t drink too much before heading out. For photographers - consider using two cameras - short lens and long lens ones. Saves having to switch lens if you have two cameras ready. we stayed at the lodge the whole time we were at kruger, and it was super safe and beautiful, the days were planned amazingly well. next time i will bring a better camera, binoculars and a nicer hat! I am South African and I was bringing my family to see where I came from and experience the bush. This place was perfect for a family . They rooms for families are excellent, giving everyone enough space and the beds where very comfy. There is no TV - but there is bush TV - each day elephants, warthogs, various species of buck, zebra etc came and spent time out the front of our deck. We sat 1m away reading a book. We go so close it was wonderful and the kids got to experience the beauty of watching an animal relaxed and happy in their own environment. Andre and Nicholas were amazing guides who were patient and funny and taught us a lot about the animals and the environment. The food was amazing and you never felt like you wanted or needed more. Pretty much everything was made onsite. The breakfast was beautiful and the Boma experience was lovely! Thank you to all the team at Simbevati River lodge for making my family’s introduction to Africa such a wonderful memorable experience! And the animals - well we saw the big 5 in less than 24 hours and because the guides know their stuff we had plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with many of Africas famous and less famous animals. The highlights were the Lion and Leopards and of course the dear family of elephants with tiny babies and also the baby hyenas! A fantastic private lodge with a beautiful rooms and tastefully decorated. The host Ian is outstanding as a person. If you are there especially for the hide photography I would recommend 4 days. We were unlucky with the two days we stayed in terms of sightings but that all changed the day we left. I feel that people are unaware of the real impact on the nature of things like synthetic soaps and compost toilets should be mandatory. I paid 5,700 Rand for 3 evening drives in the reserve each lasting around 3 hours. I've been on many a game drive in the area over the years and when game spotting I am optimistic and realistic at the same time. I saw a 3 lions and a leopard along with other animals. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate my overall experience as 6.
